How much luck have you had selling your gear in forum classified?

How much of a discount from new cost did you have to mark it down?

Was there gear that no one wanted to purchase?

How many forums do you list your gear in?

Does one forum work better than others?

Do you think selling on line is a worthwhile use of your time?

Overall do you like selling used gear in Forums?

It's easier for gear that is in demand. This can vary by forum. If it's not in demand then you will have to discount it, maybe even to the point it's not worth selling. It's easier to just handle one forum at a time for me.

I switched over to Firstlite last summer and sold a ton of camo stuff. I sold all on archery talk. Have never had a bad experience selling or buying on that site. My stuff was older but in very good condition so I sold it pretty reasonable , just make sure you figure in shipping. Good luck.

its pretty easy, and with paypal, pretty safe. If you are going to be on a forum all the time anyway, making a thread is easy to do. If the other option is letting it collect dust... why not?

I sell a lot of stuff on archery talk and have sold a few things on here. I average about 50+ transactions on AT with paypal or money orders a month and have have very very few problems.

I've sold a ton of stuff online in forums. I would say that in most cases for the smaller items I barely break above even after I pay to ship it. However, I tend to try a LOT of stuff......I'm a gear nut. And so I have a lot of stuff that I sell, usually at a hefty discount over new. Worst case scenario........I figure if I'm not using it and can't get more money out of it elsewhere, then I'd rather just sell it here or AT for a good price and let someone else get some use out of it. But I've also sold some high dollar stuff as well, like a Swaro spotter, bow, etc.

I see no reason not to sell items that are inexpensive, better a few $$ in your pocket then having a bunch of dust collectors that eventually are obsolete and valueless. Yes you may not get your initial investment back but better then nothing. As far as sought after items go, I say start with what you want to get out of it but be willing to go down some over time. I have sold a number of items on rokslide and a few on AT.

I sell a little and buy more. I've never made any real money but if I'm not going to use it then converting it to any money is better than none. Sometimes things sell and others don't but if you don't get an offer pull the item and wait a few months and re list it.
I post wanted ads also to find things that are out of production or not readily available. My reloading press , the rifle I hunt most , probably half of the dies , my kifaru sawtooth and stove , my new to me spotting scope , and a bunch of other stuff is all off of forums. I've never had a bad experience and communication is the key.
If I want to sell camping and backpack gear then here but for rifles and rifle parts I'm on the campfire or long range hunting.
I use postal money orders mostly because I hate to support the enemy of my freedom , PayPal.

The only thing that I have ever sold on a forum is here on rokslide (the only forum that I am a member of BTW) and I didn't even put it in the classifieds. I saw a post where someone was looking for a particular set of raingear that I wanted to sell so we got together and made the deal.

Great questions by the op though. The markdown depends on the product and brand name. I had a "problem" come up recently where I was about to put up a pair of Under Armour caliber boots that I bought for $225. I was going to put them up for $125. Before putting them up I searched around to make sure it was a good deal. The boots had been discontinued and sportsmans warehouse had them on clearance for $89 but were sold out.

The boots are worth more than that to me so I never put them up.

How much luck have you had selling your gear in forum classified? 100% sell rate within 3 weeks of posting

How many forums do you list your gear in? two

Does one forum work better than others? Yep, here in Canada, Albertans have the biggest wallets

Hmmmmm.....perhaps there just aren't that many guys out there looking for XL Talls. Note to self.......join a Big & Tall forum to sell those items.:D Between all my left-handed stuff and Tall items, I really am in a specialty market. Perhaps opening the Tall Leftorium isn't such a great idea for a store.

Finding the right site to sell on is pretty important. I had a jacket FS on here that sat for two week with zero interest, so I posted it on another site and bumped the price up $50 more than I was asking for it on here, and within a few hours I had 4 different guys wanting to buy it for the asking price on the new site... location, location, location

Being a gear junkie, I tend to buy a lot of stuff that sometimes never sees the field before I trade it or sell it. AlwYs upgrading. If it's poplar gear then you'll only take a slight hit which is worth it to me to be able to try it out since slot of this stuff isn't sold in store local to me

I've had good luck selling lots of stuff. have sold things on rokslide.com, archerytalk.com, ifish.net. It saves you some money over ebay by avoiding the fees, and not much work. Post the ad and bump every few days. So far, I have not had any bad experiences buying or selling gear on any of these forums.

In general, I've found that rokslide is a little easier. Not as many people trying to low ball you.

Thanks for the comments! What does “AT” stand for?
