Questions on the Leupold VX 6

I am researching new scopes for a 28 Nosler. I hadn't considered the Leupold line much until I saw the vx-6 in the 3-18 X 50. Does anybody use one and what are you thoughts on clarity, dependability etc.? I have used plenty of Leupold products over the years but have eventually gravitated to other brands. I like the weight of this scope compared to others I am looking at but also wonder why this scope is much lighter than others in its class. I appreciate any thoughts you may have.

I only have 20 rounds with one on a 7mm so I don't have a lot to say. I do want to make you aware that the ZL version is nice but limits you to 80 clicks above that. I have the fine duplex but according to leupold it's only $160 to put in a TMOA reticle or wind reticle.

I have a vx 3 and a hunting buddy has the vx6...all I can say is when I look through them side by side, there is a noticeable difference in the glass....I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a vx-6, its a nice scope...

I have three of them I got used from SWFA. They are nice. I know it isn't an apples to apples comparison, but the Leupold VX-6 with it's 30mm tube and 50mm objective performs every bit as well as my Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44 in low light. I have the TMOA reticle also and really like it. I think they are a heck of a scope for the money. I have one on my 264WM that's my main rifle anytime weight isn't a big concern, one on my 22-250 for predators where the field of view is awesome, and one to go on a 243 that's being built. I really like the covered elevation knob too so when I'm not worried about dialing I'm not worried about it being accidentally adjusted. The clicks have been spot on when dialing up and down so far also.

I've used a few of them and am a fan. The glass is awesome and they have been dialing perfect.

Thank you so much to all who responded. It is very much appreciated. As everybody knows, these new gun projects tend to go over budget every time so I am trying to do my homework and buy something I like the first time. I have a Swaro Z5 on my 300 Win and do like the scope and can't find a bad thing to say about it. I I am also really interested in the Swaro X5 and don't doubt it would be a better than good scope but it is pretty heavy and isn't terribly friendly on the pocket book! The price and weight are of course the only thing that has caused me to compromise and look at other options. The VX6 seems to be a really good value and is a little lighter than some others in its class. I am trying to keep my Nosler 28 at or just under 9.5 pounds so maybe this scope is the one! Thanks again!

i got a vx6 3-18 44mm this year 2 turn zero lock and tmoa reticle . havent tested dials but have spent last 2 weekends on load development. it does track well on small adjustments so far. the reduced eye fatigue i have had compared to my vx3 and vxIII models is huge much cleaner looking glass. mine does have 38moa travel before hitting the stop. if wanted more travel dont get the zero stop option.

I have two VX-6 scopes. One is on my Savage Model 10 carbine in .308 and the other is on a 28 Nosler.... This rifle began life as a Savage Model 111 in 7mm Rem Mag which I had my smith convert to 28 Nosler. Both of my VX-6's are 2-12x42 with the Firedot reticle. I haven't requested my custom CDS dials as I am still deciding which weight bullet I'm going to take with my to Newfoundland next year (working with 160 Accubonds and 175 partitions). I went with the 2-12 as opposed to the 3-18 because I really like that 2x setting for a wide field of view and in case the action ends up a little closer than expected. The VX-6 is an incredible scope and rivals scopes in a much higher price range. I'm very happy with mine. And by the way, great choice of caliber.

Here's a picture of mine. I have no idea why the forum is making the picture go upside down, oh well. I had it cerakoted OD green and FDE. Kept the scope black. Very happy with this gun.

Just wanted to bump this back up, rather then start a new thread.

Leupold has the VX-6HD coming out, it has an Electronic Reticle Level indicator that 'blinks' when its canted to keep you level.

I spoke to Leupold CS, they said as soon as production slows on the 6HDs they will accept VX-6s for retrofit/upgrade. I'll be sending mine in for that and the 2-turn ZL turret.

Oh, and in response the the OP, I have mine on a Rem 700 30-06 and I'm very happy with it. I picked it for the weight and eye relief, and bearing in mind the advice that it's "not a long-range scope, but a scope with long range capabilities". I understand this relates to the possible tracking/repeatability issues, but the only way I could find more then 500yds to shoot around here would be if I aimed at the Moon. So, I never worried about it, never noticed it, and I'm very happy with my choice.

They are impressive scopes for sure and the new VX6 hd are even better. I had planned on getting the 4-24 with a B&C reticle. But they aren't offering that option and you can't order it through the custom shop either. I could do the 3-18 but it's so short I'd need to use a picatinney rail which I'd rather not do. This is a real bummer for me. With the price increase and lack of reticle options I'm going with a Nightforce most likely
