First post here, I'm sorry if some of these have been addressed before, I've done a lot of reading old threads but Howa's system of item numbers is confusing me on a couple aspects and their website is not particularly helpful at all. It doesn't help that when online shopping so many retailers use stock images that even I recognize are the wrong model for what they're describing.

If I'm looking at a 1500 in 223 online, particularly a used one, is there any way to tell just from the photos if it's a short action or mini action? I'm guessing Mini has the extended magazine and short has a floor plate or is there short actions with extended mags as well?

I want to purchase a 1:8 223 mini with a sporter contour barrel. Does this mean I should only be looking at 22" models? Basically that everything 20" is the heavy barrel model?

Finally, is there anywhere online that will sell a rifle, shorten the barrel then ship it? That would cut out some steps on my end.

There are short actions with similar looking mag systems, especially used. Howa has a replacement for the short actions.

Visually, you can see a mini by proportion of the ejection port and such. The diameter is also smaller.

What length and threads do you want?

I don’t know of anyone that sells them and would also chop it. I can see what price I can get a new one from my wholesaler, and have a local guy cut and thread. No tax unless you are in AZ.

One option is a new prefit barrel, 223 Wylde 18” 7.5 twist. If you buy the barrel and send me a new/used action I will swap it no cost. I am going to list several barrels including this one for a good discount.
