Hey everyone, I’ll be deer and elk hunting just south of Jackson Hole this fall and plan to pick up an OTC bear tag in case I run into one. I’ve never hunted bear before, especially spot and stalk in the fall, so I’m starting from scratch. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Glass is your friend for bears. I’d also take some time to hit berry patches if I were you.

I worked with a guy whose dad had been an outfitter in Co, mostly for elk. He said if a client wanted a bear in addition to an elk they would put him hunting over the site where they had field dressed his elk. This was probably 40-50 years ago. I don't know if you can do that now.

Are berry patches "in fruit" in the fall deer & elk season? The berries are close to gone by mid summer here but I am in the east and CMcC is from Montana, so maybe.
