I'm in the middle of building a packable titanium wood stove. I'm copying a lot of the Seek Outside stove design and I'm stuck on the vent underneath the door. Do I really need one? Couldn't I just slide the door open a little for air intake?

Make one,not always a good idea to leave the door open.

Take a look on the damper style of the oval or cylinder stove from Kifaru, super easy, you can also just make it round with a rivet and a piece of titanium foil.

Picture here is diy stove I made few years ago.b9983537d3987d5ea9967c1d73351e4e.jpg

I just drilled out 3 or 4 holes in mine. I don't have a damper on mine or anything.

I guess that makes sense. I was hoping to use less material to keep the weight down but I guess I'll have to save weight in other spots.

Thanks guys!

I've done it both ways, and both have been fine.

I’m doing the same. Making a Cub clone. I’m try it with no cover for the holes and add something later if need be. I’m making 3 stoves, and will be selling two to help cover the cost of one. Titanium is pricey!

I kind of forgot about this thread but since it was brought back up I’ll update what I did.
I drilled a bunch of holes and just bent a few pieces I had left over that I can slip over the holes if I want.
The pics are from the first time I fired it up while we were camping over the Canadian thanksgiving long weekend. I used it the following week hunting and again in November. It was amazing having a source of heat like that.
After a few uses though I think I will change the front door to something with a hinge and add a few stiffeners. The titanium warped enough to make it pretty hard to slide the panel in to close the big opening.
