I have read in a couple of places or seen in a video review that the elevation turret is too easily moved and the illum likes to bleed through. Have any of you guys observed this in your personal scopes?

Thanks,

John

Yes, both.

On the elevation turret I think it moves or stays put depending on the way the rifle is carried and handled and whether or not my sleeve or belly part of my shirt come into contact with it.

The illumination bleeds in most settings except the lowest and the lowest bleeds too around 30 minutes after sunset.

The illumination is unusable. Terrible! I haven’t had a turret move tho, yet.

Reticle illumination is pointless for most users honestly and very few scopes do it “well”. The overall illumination on the RS1.2 is sub par.

The knurling on the turrets is way too aggressive, I’ve had multiple instances of it dialing itself off of zero because of it being caught on gear in back seat of vehicles.

RTZ and verifying zero before shooting should be apart of the shot process anyway, but it’s still annoying. I’ve filed the knurling down on a couple of mine and its much better.

I never use illumination on any of my hunting scopes, so can't really comment on that.

I have not had any issues with turret moving but I wouldn't be surprised if/when it happens.

Elevation turret has moved a few clicks here and there. Can’t say ive needed the illumination in the last 8 or so big game animals killed with it. It might come in handy some day on a dark timber first light situation in which case the lowest setting is fine for putting the dot on the vitals. It’s maybe 2-5 min of last first/last against dark backgrounds that it could be useful.

For the elevation turret I’ll be wrapping a piece of electrical tape around the textured part this season. Seems like more of an issue going into and out of rifle cases, not so much when I’m carrying it around.

Still a great scope

No issues with my turret moving but there is a little bleed on my reticle as well. I don't use the illumination and wouldn't use it even if it was flawless so it's really a non-issue for me.

I don’t understand the willingness to give Maven a pass on the lousy illumination. IMO, if it’s included on a scope it better work. It doesn’t.

I’ve needed illumination several times.

I guess for me I have nothing to compare it to, I've literally never had or wanted a scope with illumination. I did turn on the Maven illumination in my house and noticed the bleed though but that was in a dark living room too. I honestly didn't think anything of it until reading this post because I do not care and all and for all I know/knew it is normal to have some starburst's when it is turned up on high.

My comment was to just affirm that I did notice it in my scope, so it's just another data point confirming the issue.

I'm actually curious when you've needed illumination. I suppose if a scope has a really tiny reticle that isn't visible, it would be more important. To me the Maven reticle is good enough that illumination is not needed for me during legal shooting light.

Mine bleeds on high settings. When I need illumination, I don't use high settings. I use a setting that isn't even visible in decent light conditions. Non-issue for me, and for all intents and purposes the illumination works perfectly for me.

I hunt a lot of hogs. Shooting at very last light is quite common. But I also needed it one evening to shoot a cow elk in dark timber too.

Additionally, one of the benefits of good illumination is the ability to better see a FFP reticle at low power in daylight. This scope’s illumination is absolutely worthless for that.
