Quality Bull Tag but need hernia surgery

I burned all my points and drew an Oregon big 3 archery tag in 2017. The unit is mostly steep and deep. Unexpectedly, I had to have inguinal hernia surgery in mid-July that year. My story is a little different than most of the others here, it was super sucky. I thought I would be recovered in time for the hunt, but the truth is I struggled to even hike around for the first few weeks of the season. I never was able to hunt hard the way I normally do. Stepping over logs and traversing the steep hillsides was painful. Everyone's recovery is different, and the type of surgery you have also makes a difference. It sounds like the technology is better now, and that the recovery is quicker and smoother. It still bugs me this many years later that I drew a basically OIL tag and wasn't able to hunt the way I wanted and fill the tag. Best of luck to you, I hope your experience is better than mine.

If you dont mind saying what type of surgery was yours?

I had mesh installed for inguinal. If I had an October tag. I wouldn't hesitate to fix it this month. I wouldn't wait past mid August.

It was inguinal with a mesh implant. It ended up being a lot tougher of a recovery than I expected. I've always felt like I was a pretty tough guy with a high pain tolerance. I had about a 2-3" incision and it felt like everything I did, ever movement I tried to make, I was going to rip or tear something loose. That would be followed up by a few minutes of feeling like I got kicked in the nuts. Like I said before, I've heard that the surgery has changed and that recovery times have gotten better. I'm not trying to scare you, I just figured I would tell my story since it's different than most peoples.

Ask the surgeon, tell him you will be going on the hunt and how he recommends coordinating things. He will be in the best position to give you guidance as he knows your case and knows how he will be repairing things.
