These are supposed to be stupid easy, right? I'm struggling to keep these sticking on a basic wrap. Cleaning the wrap and base of vanes with rubbing alcohol... I've tried two different types of LocTite. No dice. I lost a vane almost once per hunting trip last season.

Any suggestions?

Rubbing alcohol might be the problem. Use acetone and I bet it will fix your issue.

Q2i bases don't need prep though.

Only issues Ive had with Q2i are when the jig isnt aligned well with with the arrow. Most superglues need good pressure/ anaerobic environment for good adhesion.

I’ve been fletching my own arrows since the late 80’s. I’ve never heard it called tip to tail for running the glue the full length of the vain. I’ve always assumed it’s a given to add glue to the full vane. Tip and tail to me means to add a dab to the front and rear of the vane. Guess I’m showing my age. 😂

That's what I thought it meant, too.

I haven't had the greatest luck with them either, definitely not as easy as bohning vanes for me.

I agree. I'm not sure what others are talking about with the tip to tail.

Just a dap front and back at the end.

Add a dab of glue to the front of the vane and back of the vane where it contacts the arrow shaft.
This ^ I do the same thing started doing it 3 years ago when I started building my own arrows and I don’t see near as many fletchings blow off when they go through a deer!

I assume they mean put glue on the full length of the vane (I put a few dabs and then smear them with the tip of a toothpick), but then after it's stuck on and you take your fletching jig off, you put a small dab of glue at the front and the back of the vane. That's what I do with my vanes anyways.

@Trumpkin The Dwarf, how old is your glue? I've had glue issues if my tube of loctite is over a year old.

I clean my shafts with acetone, make sure its good and dry, then add my wrap. Then no other prep.. just put my glue on the vanes and stick.

Never had an issue with Q2I vanes, and honestly never had an issue with any brand as long as I followed the instructions and used common sense.

Q2I, Blazer, AAE Hybrids ect... Vanes should not be cleaned with any solvents as that can weaken the material and remove the factory applied primer. AAE Max , TAC and other vanes need to have a primer applied prior to sticking.

Bare shafts get wiped down with alcohol first and allowed to dry completely.

If I'm using a wrap I do not clean the wrap, again any solvents could weaken the wrap material.

Alcohol will cause issues, use acetone on the bareshaft. Not a ton where you soak the shaft. Just enough on the rag.
