Puffy pants for glassing

So after many days glassing first and last light and freezing my balls off I now know the value of puffy pants.

My question...for a September archery hunt would I be better served with puffy pants or a woobie for its versatility?

I've glassed from my sleeping bag, pants are a lot more comfy.

Tagging in to follow. I have the Kuiu Kenai puffy under pants (capris?) but think an over pant puffy would be more convenient. Specifically looking at the FL Uncompaghre and Kifaru lost park pants.

I have down pants and down mittens. When it's time to Don either one....I'm more than thankful that I hauled it along.

I am planning on running the woobie this year instead of puffy pants. The ability to wrap my feet up in it is the main reason. Also adds 10-20 degrees if I throw it over my quilt at night

IMO the woobie sucks for this. Puffy pants are much warmer.

@Ryan Avery does it suck at keeping your legs warm or the legs and feet? I'm really not too worried about my feet...

IMO the woobie sucks for this. Puffy pants are much warmer.

This has been my experience as well. If it’s cold, and you want to be warm sitting still, the pants are the way to go.

I liked the idea of it thinking it would be quick an easy. But it really didn't keep me any warmer, leg, feet or body. Seemed like I was always fighting it to keep the drafts at bay. Then if you have to move it starts the process all over again. I rather just use the pants, down or the Kifaru puffy pants when it really cold and use them inside the bag quilt too.

@Luziana Feller, look into M65 pant liners (long version) on eBay for like $13. They button on and off so you don’t have take your boots off to put them on...and they cost $13.

They weigh about 14 ounces. They are similar in construction to a woobie, but woobies weigh 1.5-2#.

I started using Feathered Friends puffy pants this year and will not leave the truck without them.
If I upgrade I'd probably go synthetic and find something a little more durable (Kifaru)

Does anyone have personal experience with the Kuiu super down pro pant? I know they are expensive but they sound good for glassing and/or tree stand hunting in cold weather.

I have the superdown pro pants. They are warm. Defintely not something I would walk far in. The legs rub together and are pretty loud so if I walk in them at all I keep that in mind. They work well for what they are for, being still in extreme cold.

Yes, my thoughts are for sitting in them, not walking at all. I would have guide or axis pants with/out zip offs for the walking part, then for glassing or sitting would don the SD pros. I have my top pretty well covered but looking for more on the bottom. Would use these in elk hunting as well as stand/blind hunting in Oklahoma mainly for the exposed tree stand if needed ( we do get some mornings below freezing there). I hate wearing my current bibs in and out as I get sweaty walking in with them on, and then walking out with them is worse.

No experience with the SD Pros. I have the ultras with only a little bit of experience with them, but for no thicker than they are, I'm impressed. I wore them in a turkey blind last spring - first morning was 19 degrees when I got in the blind around 5:30am, and I was wearing midweight merino bottoms and sitka mountain pants. I was COLD by 6am. Put the Ultras on under my pants and the cold never bothered me again and I got out of the blind around 10:30 and it was up to 30 degrees at that time.

The next morning was similar temps but I only sat til about 9am before getting out of the blind, but I'm confident I could've sat as long as I wanted to.

i have the uncompaghre pants, and for the size and weight i wish they were a tad warmer,
my mother in law had to sew suspender loops on them as they rely on really cheap cruddy elastic in the band to stay on - no belt loops or suspender points. very bad on FLs part to not have the ability to keep them on ur waist if ur changing spots or sitting long hours in a tree stand with them on.

I used my FL puffy pants last week for a hunt. They worked well for my glassing periods and I even slept in them at night.

Received the Kifaru Lost Parka pants a few weeks back and have been putting them to use. So far they are stellar! The added weight of the reinforced knees, and but, is well worth it. As mentioned above can be a pain to add layers under outer pants, so being able to throw over and glass without worrying about shredding them is a plus.
