Luke,
I have the KUIU down (with out hood) and the original KUIU synthetic (discontinued). How does the Kanai compare to these 2 in warmth? Any thoughts?

Yea Id be interested in knowing the comparison to the spindrift too

Sorry Jeff I have only tried on a friends original Kuiu Spindrift. Haven't owned or worn one long term. I will say comparing them side by side in hand though I like the face fabric of the Kenai a lot better as it seems tough and definitely a lot quieter. That said I believe there is a bit more fill in the Kenai but don't quote me on that. Just felt like it had more to my unscientific feel in my hands.

I'm interested in the Kenai but am concerned about fit. I currently run a Guide jacket in Medium and it fits perfect. I'd like the same fit if i can but don't want to go through the return hassle. Any input on which size compares to a medium Guide Jacket?

I'm completely on the fence between FL and Kifaru..

I have a FL and love it.. But..

I LOVE kangaroo pockets. When sitting still being able to rub my hands together with no gloves on and warm up is awesome.

With that being said, I HATE pullovers lol.

Tough choice whether I should switch or not.. Basically is PIA = bad ass pocket lol.. All the other options pro/cons are kind of a wash for me..

I would think if you have a newer "made in China" guide jacket that you would want to stick with the same size.

It seems like when they switched from Canada to China everything shrunk 1 size, so if you have an older guide jacket you probably want to size up.

Nuke Man, I'm kind of in your scenario. I hunt Montana and I have the Kuiu Guide pants/jacket. I RARELY leave my tent without wearing the guide jacket, or at least packing it with me. Lately though, I feel like I'd be better off selling the guide series and layering with a base layer top and bottom, merino 210 top (or peloton), attack pants, a kenai jacket, and the chugach jacket and pant. I think I'd be plenty warm for rifle season. It would be lighter and more packable. I also, thought about getting the guide vest. Where the guide series excels, in my opinion, is when hunting static. But that rarely is my style of hunting. I'm pretty much always moving unless I'm glassing. I sold a chugach jacket a few years ago, and regretted it ever since!

I have all mediums in Kuiu and it fits great layered. I dont have the kenai though, i have the superdown. That sale is tempting and i'd get a medium if it were me. Im 5-8, 160.

I got rid of my Kuiu Guide gear and now run Kenai / Chugach. The Kenai is one of my favorite pieces of gear. Quiet, has pit zips, and a good fit. It could use elastic cuffs though, I have to take off my release and Garmin to get the jacket off. My primary use has been September elk hunting.

I am 5'11", 175 lbs, 32" waist, 42R jacket and the Large is great if I'm just wearing it over a merino shirt - nice athletic fit. If I wanted to layer more underneath I'd size up.

What size guide jacket did you used to wear, Large? So large kenai is comparable to large guide?

Guide was size Large. The guide jacket fit with more room underneath than the Kenai - I could fit a light to mid weight puffy underneath. The Kenai is a little smaller for the size, but I liked the fit for archery season.

I have a medium guide jacket. I just got my large Kenai in. It fits fine under and over the guide. The kenai is super soft and absolutely quiet!

So my Kenai showed up at my door on the day they went on sale. This afternoon I got an unexpected call from KUIU customer service. She said they are crediting me the 15% for the sale. That's good business right there.

That is impressive.Just ordered the Kenai in Large.I am 6' 185 i only want to wear a merino under it and throw a xl superdown over top of those for glassing and camp .I fall between a L and XL in Kuiu hope i get it right picking the L in the Kenai.

but down to the brass tax....the question that popped into my head driving to work this afternoon....... what about shooting in your puffy? archery shooting specifically. is it possible without an armguard of some sort to help compress the puffiness of a puffy?

Here is my experience. When archery hunting, if not sitting and glassing, my puffy is in my pack. To me a puffy is to warm once on the move in Sep temps and therefore isn't an issue while actively hunting.

Yeah but I base my decisions on what happens 90% of the time. In my experience I get on game 95%+ of the time while slow stalking and intermittent glassing offhand. I've actually never had an animal I would shoot sneak up on me while glassing and if just taking a break I usually am cooling down and don't put my puffy on, if I'm not in my base layer I'll put a mid layer on before a puffy. If elk hunting and cold calling I don't put a puffy on to do that either. Really I hardly ever put my puffy on during archery season.

right on, thanks alot for the insight. like i said, just a thought i had. being zero experience you guys are sure a ton of help when it comes to practical application of somewhat insignificant things that could easily be overlooked.
