Not sure where to post this but I'm flying into Spokane on 5/15 then driving to the Riggins, ID area to bear hunt.

I'm looking for a range somewhat along the way that goes beyond 200. It doesn't seem to be a thing which is fine, but thought I'd ask. I'll stop at Farragut Public Shooting Range to check my zero @ 200.

Also interested on what your process looks like shooting wise on arrival for destination DIY hunts that include air travel. I'm mostly an archery hunter so I just fold a cheap target into my travel expense and can shoot it about anywhere.

My own personal issue is that I have limited opportunities to practice beyond 200 at home and would feel more confident if I could throw a couple rounds at 300 & ideally 400 before hunting. Plus I'm practicing at sea level. Not sure if elevation will change anything. Obviously I'm not a marksman or super experienced with rifles as my state doesn't even have a rifle big game season.

Thanks in advance.

on the drive find a chunk of national forest land that’s conducive to shooting. A cardboard box at 200yds and rocks for anything farther will work to verify your zero and dope.

From Spokane to Riggins, you’ll probably go down 195 to Lewiston. That would make it reasonably convenient to shoot at Mica Rifle Range or Rock Lake rifle range. It’s my understanding that both of those have steel targets out to very extended ranges.

Fernan on the east side of CDA is pretty convenient, but you’d need a member to meet you there and “guest” you in.

Hat Creek near Riggins is famous as a long range training facility. Not sure if they have anything public.

I generally just find some public land where I can put a paper target at exactly 100 yards for zero and an assortment of 1 MOA rocks at a variety of distances to confirm atmospherics. That part of Idaho has lots of public land & 1 MOA rocks :)

Yeah like the other guys are saying, no need for a range with all the public we have out here. Set up some boxes and go shoot with paper taped to the box if you want to shoot for groups. Then pick out some rocks to shoot.
