Wanting to get a heavy barrel spun up for PRS competitions.

What are people’s thoughts on barrel length and contour for a 6 creedmoor barrel? Will be using a suppressor so want to keep that in mind for barrel length.

Also any thoughts on twist rate for the barrel would be great!

Thanks everyone for the help!

26 inch Proof Competition Contour or similar. No shorter than 24 inch. Any specific reason for 6 Creedmoor - not as popular in PRS now. 6GT with factory ammo availability has cut into 6 Creedmoor.

Going to start reloading
I’d highly recommend looking into 6 br, 6 dasher or 6 GT for someone able to reload. I was not a fan of 6 creed for PRS, went through a couple barrels and I wouldn’t consider one now. If you’re stuck on the creed I’d figure out what bullet you plan on shooting and have the barrel reamed accordingly.

I would try to source a quality blank, bartlein, Krieger, CRB, ace. Then I would send it to a smith that cares about making the most accurate barrel they can.

For contour mtu is a light barrel in PRS now. I prefer 1.25 straight 24” for suppressed shooting.

Iv been through a hand full of osprey prefits. Had some good ones, but overall I prefer not to buy them for a comp gun where I need all I can get out of a barrel.

6 CM will work, however, 6GT, 6 Dasher and if you wanted to stick with the CM case the 25 would be better suited for that purpose. Source a known good blank, Brux, Bart, Krieger, CRB, or K&P and have a good smith chamber it. The smith may have one in stock, you never know. I like M24 contours, and straight would be my second preference.

Basically MTU or bigger contour. Some depends on what stock/chassis you're using and how heavy you want it to be.

Agree with others that I wouldn't choose to start with 6 creed for that purpose.

My current PRS barrel is 28" and I use a scythe or nomad xc + recoil x so it's a long bitch. I got it before I used cans much, probably go 24" on the next one.

I run a 26" Criterion 6 Creed and throw my wolfhunter on the end. I put all of that into a foundation genesis with brass weights and I come in around 22lbs. Not the most "gamey" setup but it works just fine. I'm just out there for some timed, higher stress practice anyway.

Doing it all over again, I'd go dasher probably. They just seem like they're a nice little easy button with lower recoil.

I am confident that a name brand Tikka prefit barrel will not hold back a new - or experienced - PRS competitor.
