Prototyping “Pack Pillow” for prone shooting

We will get you one soon, and do some shooting.

And, I agree with the analysis above. A loosely filled bag that is set for shooting but quickly adaptable.

Having used my SSS for years, it has gotten so much varied applications. Just using it as a quick detach kneeling pad has saved me from rocks, stickers, and needles. I never would have carried something for that, but always use my SSS now. The pack pillow can do it.

I have never lost my SSS using a plastic carabiner.
I’m finally back in AZ 😎

Glad to see this coming to the top of the dev queue. I’m still most excited about the “NSI-spec” 3S which simple has wide spaced PALS webbing under the bag to enable pack straps to run through.

Several good ideas on this thread, principle amongst them the idea of sewing loops which can accept various specs of slotted buckles rather than attaching buckles, carabiners, etc. to the bag.

Building in enough flexibility to use in modified high prone on uneven terrain is a key feature missing from MOST mollinator implementations. This comes from low fill, flexible base, tight integration to pack (so edges can be used on angle to create flat nooks), and easy removal for multiple uses as advertised.

For a quick deployment setup this isn’t a bad way to go. Seems with the pack most times, especially day packs, it’s too small or collapsed and you’re always looking for a little more elevation. Plus as mentioned the pillow aspect for naps 🤣

It’s all about the naps during elk hunts!

Naps happen every day! Shots happen only once…

We discussed this exact topic back in March. Getting something a little more “multi purpose” out of a pack “rest bag”.

If Stephen is too busy to add loops hit me up.
Looks like a non issue with the terratorn and a security clip could be added as is but prob not necessary.

Loops will be good on a regular exo pack tho.

Funny, I have a Dyneema stuff sack with foam balls that is just not quite rite.

Have you looked into an air bladder (inflatable pillow?) or a quick removable foam insert that can adjust height?

Air filled create weird movements on recoil. Tend to be bouncy.

Foam inserts that are flat don’t conform well to the odd shapes of a pack. Also, where to put it and what else it gets used for.

The better option is a jacket or something similar, a rock/log underneath the pack, moving the pack, or turning it onto its side.

If I am going to shoot off a pack, I clip a 2-5 ultralight that is 2.5 ounces into my pack. If serves as a rear bag while a SSS or the Pack Pillow is the front support.

Long range shooting is about building solid positions to reduce the wobble and keep the target in the scope after recoil.

Adjustability you mention is critical. That is (personally) why I just practice with a tripod as the one solution. It is the most stable for me and easy to configure.
