Any suggestions?

Old grill is shot. Thought the local VFD was going to get some work the last two times I’ve used it.
We’ve always bought the cheapest one.

I’d like to have a griddle and grill with a lid this time.

Top end is $500. Thanks.

Pit Boss has worked well for me.

Mine came with slated top AND the flat black stone (so you can swap back and forth). I always use the black stone and hardly ever the slated top.

If you can wait - Fathers Day and Memorial Day sales will be coming soon where you can save some $

Buy a weber spirit for that price range. Can always buy a griddle top for it later on. You get what you pay with grills like most everything.

I’ve had a pit boss for a long time that I love but I got a blackstone about a year ago and I think I’ve used that pit boss three times since

My brother gave me a weber Q 1000 as a housewarming present in 2008. Still going strong, and I use it probably once a week. It will comfortably cook steaks or burgers or hotdogs for four people. I also use it to grill chicken pieces ( thighs or breasts). It comes equipped to run the small green bottles, but I bought an adapter and hooked it up to a 5 gallon tank. I’ve taken it on a number of camping trips as well because it’s pretty small and portable. I especially like that it has a cast iron grill. I don’t know if it’s adaptable to a griddle.

If you want something to cook for a big party this is not the way. But it’s awesome for a small family.

How well to the griddle tops work? Do they collect the grease?

Another vote for a weber. Had plenty of cheap gas grills prior. Bought a spirit2 and a few year later I now understand

Think I’ve decided on a 3 burner Weber Spirit.
Is the $50 more for the “Sear Zone” worth it? Seems kinda gimmicky to me.

The sear zone is an extra burner between 2 normally spaced burners. I like having it on my Weber grill for extra high heat when needed.

Well timed thread. I am looking at getting a new grill. Have to wait a month or so though. Refrigerator decided to start acting up.

For $500 I'd do the exact same thing as someone that had a $500 budget for a bow. Shop used. I would bet you could find a virtually brand new Weber or similar that was originally upwards of a grand on Facebook Marketplace that has only been used once or twice. Probably come with a cover that's beat up from it sitting.

There is a large jump in quality from a sub $500 grill to a $1000+ grill from what I have seen and experienced. They get much hotter. Hold temp better. Recover faster when you open the lid. The starters don't quit working. They look good much longer. Etc.

Examples from my local FB MP right now.

I checked Marketplace at one time.
Seemed like a lot $40 junk that was probably the neighbor’s grill the day before.
