Proof PXT barrel lengths. No 16.5” for 6.5!

I want to build a 6.5 creed Tikka mountain rifle with a 16.5” barrel to take advantage of the new + peak cartridges. Also want to try the PXT rifling while I’m at it. I’m kind of disappointed that Proof only makes 18” barrels at the shortest. Part of me says whatever just get the 18” but part of me is hoping they recognize the new market for short barrels and produce a 16.5” Tikka Prefit PXT. What do you guys think, is that on the horizon? The 7 Backcountry has 16.5” available, only makes sense to do the same with + peak.

May need a minimum of a certain barrel length to get the benefit.Thats just a guess

No 7 twist for 22 cal either. Just 8's. Which might work for 88's if you got em going fast enough.

They just launched the product, I suspect it will take them a bit to ramp up to a full product line.

A 16" barrel is a very niche length for 6.5CM. Doesn't make sense for Proof to start off building a ton of prefits in unpopular lengths. Not everyone will use them with the peak ammo either. They can always add to the product line later, but you can't undo an overrun of prefits that aren't selling.

BTW, they have 16.5" blanks, so you can always get one done up.

Listen to that part . Pull out a tape measure and look at 1.5", it ain't much. I'd take the technology over the inch and a half but that's me. If the measurement is more important then stick with conventional.

These are the exact sort of complaints that lead companies into adding more skus than they are capable of producing.
Its been a week, maybe 2?
Give them a chance to supply the initial demand, otherwise wait times are going to sky-rocket and everyone will be posting whining about the wait times.

It depends on the gunsmith. I really like Justin at Kinportpeakrifles.com. He charges $500 or so for chambering.

But I would say most are somewhere near the $450-$600 range.
