Problem with bipod on Christensen Ridgeline

I have recently bought a Ridgeline 300 win mag, and love it. But, I am having trouble with my bipod. The sling swivel is too tall I believe, so the bipod I have has the inability to stay on with its design. It is a Caldwell and the only one I have ever had. Is it just due to being a. Cheap bipod? What bipod (6-9") so y'all use on Christensen I guess would be a great question?? Harris????? Thanks

Can you post a picture if the swivel stud and the bipod? All swivel studs should be the same size unless Christensen is using something I'm not aware of. I've never been impressed with Caldwell bipods. As you said they are cheap. That being said even a Harris can come lose. A picatinney style mount is better than a swivel stud mount.

My Harris mounts to my Ridgelines no problem.

I've shot quite a few Ridgelines and the Mesa which has the same stock and sling swivel studs and have never had a problem with any bipods. I've used Harris and a cheapo Blackhawk.

If you're looking at getting a better bipod, I really recommend the Javelin from Spartan Precision Equipment.

First is Christensen, second is my old rifle (Remington) ... Having the taller swivel allows the Caldwell to pull it below the metal plate that keeps the two small arms attached, if that makes sense. Could almost add padding to my Caldwell, but if that is how all christens end swivels look, then I'll just get a Harris if that works.. No biggie, just would hate to buy that and it not work either

I think you can add a longer tightening screw to the caldwell and make it work.....

Huntsman, you would think. But the tighter I tighten it, it pulls the hole of the sling swivel through to the underside of the bipod, which tightens it past the point to where the two small arms will stay on the sling swivel... Probably makes no sense, but will try the Harris.

I'm having the same issue with my Rudolph bipod on my Ridgeline.
I actually just got off the phone with Rudolph Optics a few minutes ago and the gentleman I spoke with seemed pretty befuddled as to how this was happening.
I had suspected that it may be due to the narrow front end of the stock, but the taller swivel stud makes sense, now.

John @ Rudolph said he was going to play with one of their units in house and try to figure out a solution for me.

Let me know if you figured out a way to make your Caldwell work!

I managed to fix, or at least improve the situation on my Ridgeline....

I found some 1/4" circular rubberized foam pads with adhesive backs. Peel & stick.
I think if managed to fit 5 in a row on each side.
They're probably only 1/16" thick, but it created enough space to get my bipod to tighten down more securely.

Thicker may help more?

I have done a great deal of marching all over hell with that rifle this season after installing them and have not had it fall off since.
It fell off 3 times while carrying over shoulder and detached a 4th time when I pulled the trigger on my antelope, while utilizing the bipod to shoot, prior to my modifications.
I've noticed that it still fudges off perfect, slightly. But, after dropping my brand new ridgeline 3 times before the modification, I check it all the time and pinch the clap clamps back together when I see them start to slip.

Could potentially still come off if I wasn't checking, but maybe not, I should probably find a secured environment where a drop wouldn't harm the rifle or scope and do some jumping jacks or something. Would be nice to know whether or not I need to keep babysitting it!

Definitely a drastic improvement, though.

As I said, perhaps slightly meatier spacers would make it perfectly secure and not just better.

If anyone else decides to play with this and go thicker than 1/16" please let me know what kind of results you get!

I noticed with my ridgeline I had that the Caldwell bipod wouldnt thread down far enough to snug it up on the rifle. For range trips I’d stick dime between the set screw and bipod to shim the gap. I got rid of the rifle before hunting season so never found a more permanent solution.
