Agree. I got one, it's really nice. If they had it in a green or light gray, it'd be a perfect nearly-half-price Ambient replacement. Maybe next year.

Is it pretty form fitting? Or loose enough to go over a one or two base layers?

I like Rab and what they do. This looks like a good option but no great hunting colors unfortunately.

It would be easy to buy the blue and dye it with some yellow RIT dye to get green, or buy the red and use blue dye to get a brown. Costs about $5 and takes 30 minutes.

It's pretty form fitting. For me, it's definitely a midlayer. It's great with a baselayer, but I wouldn't want to do 2 baselayers or a midlayer under it. It's great to layer over.

I have the sitka kelvin active -- the sleeveless jacket - and the Rab piece fits and feels almost exactly like that, with sleeves obviously.

I don't have the ambient, but I suspect that it's nearly identical.

Looks pretty sweet. They have one color at a pretty good discount. Is this more of an outer layer than a mid-layer? How's the fit?

I have this jacket in the color that is on sale for $114. Its not really that bad of a color. I used it in Wy this Oct. elk hunting. Wore a Capilene cool lightweight T, Then Sitka lightweight core hoody the the Free Alpha. I was very pleased with this combo.

It’s a base layer, mid layer and outer layer!
I can fit up to a couple layers underneath, but generally just wear a merino t shirt and then the Alpha Direct.

It works for me from 20f to 60f in that configuration. It breathes incredibly well and sheds wind. It really is a do it all piece of clothing.
