Preferred carbon VS. Proof carbon

Is that an arca rail mounted on top of the XLR’s integral arca rail? Hard to tell in the picture but that’s what it appears to be by my eye.
Noooo mine is the gen 3 so it doesn’t have an integrated rail. So yea it’s a mounted arca rail lol. One day I’ll upgrade to the gen 4

Considering a Preferred barrel myself. I’ve heard decent enough things about the quality of their barrels to roll the dice on one. However, I’m also interested in ordering a Kelbly action from them and getting them to chamber and thread the barrel at the same time but I haven’t been able to find any feedback on their smith services. Let us know how your barrel shoots when you get it.

My Kelbly barreled action I bought from them shoots great. I’d have no hesitation having them spin one up for you.

Makes a lot more sense. I was confused by what I thought I was seeing.
Finally got out to shoot this weekend and the rifle shot pretty good, it was getting more and more accurate as the barrel sped up. I wasn’t at my best though that’s for sure, best group I got towards the end was .67” but it was a split group and wasn’t the prettiest. However, that veeeery well could have been my doings. Although .67” is perfectly fine with me, I’m gonna tinker with my hand loads a bit and see if I can’t tighten things up! All in all, I think it’s gonna be a great shooting rifle.

Not bad for a first outing! I never judge a new barrel by my first range trip. Too many variables are moving at once on a new barrel with new brass. I bet those groups squeeze in quite a bit more now that you’re through break-in once you figure out your optimal charge weight and seating depth. Good luck!

Second range trip brought some good results. Upped the powder charge from 41gr to 41.5gr of h4350, and then just because I had some space to work with, I lengthened my OAL to 30 thou off the lands. Rifle seemed to like the recipe a bit more! Screwed up my 10 shot group with a flyer, woulda been .72” group, but the pressure got to me 😂

Now you’re making some progress. Those are great looking groups, most would call it quits but I bet there’s more on the table for the taking. I’m not much help when it comes to H4350 with all of my experience in this cartridge being with Varget but I’ve found some incredibly small groups even farther off the lands. In fact, my tightest group sits 0.090 off. Good luck tweaking, looks like the “secret sauce” isn’t far out of reach now.

I may mess with seating depths a bit more, just because I never really have much, and I like to tinker. My previous load was about .060 off the lands, but I’m guessing the tighter groups I got came more from the powder bump. May load up 10 or so with a bigger jump and just see what happens!
