It can barely dip into the teens when its coldest around here. Im exploring the idea of zions or other nylon pants.

Do you just run a base layer in winter or some heavier pants?

I've got pranas and FL Corrugates and as long as I'm moving, wool base layers and the pants are just fine. I've used that combo in sub zero temps with no ill effects.

In my experience the pranas suck at cutting wind. They do make a heavier winter version of the prana though. I haven’t tried them out yet. If I’m moving I wear a wool base layer under my pranas down into the teens.

I ran the pranas 2 weeks ago in snowy and windy conditions with a light merino base layer. Not super warm but not freezing, but also depends the type of person you are. My legs don't seem to get cold very easy. I got brand new pranas off Amazon for 50, at that price it's easy to pick up a set and see how they do for you. They are super nice and I'm sure you would find a time to wear them even if they aren't warm enough.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I have like three pairs and honestly other then them being cheap I can’t see what every sees in these as hunting pants. Nice to wear everyday but hunting I feel like there is better options.

Like others have said if you're moving you'll be fine. Sitting for any length of time I'd get something heavier. I have the lined pants and I don't like the lining in them for active use. It seems to bunch up on me. They are a warm pant though I wore them all winter for work.

7 degrees here on a beautiful spring day here in sodak this morning and with light first light base layer and my Zions I was nice and warm on my walk. I think they block the wind pretty good I wear them for work out side all winter and with the base layer I have wore them to the -20 below wind chill and more comfortable than the jeans I used to wear with base layers. Not as good as my timberlines though.
