Is it just me or is everyone else absolutely hammered body wise after their elk hunts? Did a 3.2 mile pack out round trip with 1,200ft of elevation gain two times to get my bull out. And I’m absolutely smoked!!!! I stay in decent shape year round but dang I’m dead

Depends on the packout. One in particular destroyed me. About 5 years ago we packed a bull out 5 miles out of a hole, I think 14-1500 ft of gain. So that was 10 miles, almost 3000ft of gain with 80lbs to get that bull out. I was a tired sumbitch.

Elk hunting in general is a kick in the balls. My max is 10-12 days and I'm ready for the couch for a week. A vacation from your vacation if you will. I can't ell you how many I've killed on the first or second trip in from there on it's simply a grind. Packing the elk out just means it's final!

Packing elk is supposed to be tough, thankfully the mind and body forget that part and your ready again for the fun in just a few weeks🤙 One reason elk hunting is addictive, we wait all year for a short window of time, it then arrives with so many peaks and valleys, then you torture your body if successful👊 You rejoice, remember, forget and then do it every year till your body says you can’t do it again…until then enjoy the success and plan for next year💯🤙

ps things hard earned are remembered a lot more and bring more personal satisfaction 💰

I did my first solo elk pack out this year. I thought I took it easy by making 5 total pack outs, but that was a lie. I had 2 days left to still fill my muley tag and pulled a Forrest Gump.

Geeze I'm in my 60s now and used to love that pain .
I wish I could relive it all again over and over, the price of getting old.
Now, to surround myself with a bunch of eager new hunters and packers, with the rule ......
The Old Man shoots first.👍😜💪

dont forget the fact that we stupidly did an additional 6 miles that morning with ~1000 ft of elevation gain before the real work even started

This year I got beat down lol. I shot my bull solo almost 6 miles from the truck. Did him in 3 trips. I think I’ve been to the chiropractor 4 times since getting home.

Funny thing is- I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. Those aches and pains remind me I’m alive.
