Pope and Young or not?

Hey folks, I was fortunate to tag my first bull elk in September! I got him euro mounted and have had a few folks ask score and whether he was P&Y while they were at my place. I honestly have no clue and don’t put much weight on it, but figured it would be interesting to get some feedback from the forum. Also, do you think he is 3-4 years old? Thanks y’all!

I wouldn't call a 5 point bull a raghorn. I do agree it's probably not big enough to make P&Y.

Pope and Young is merely the scoring system for archery. No, the bull won't make the minimum to be a "book" animal.

My guess is he'd run in the 235 to 240 inch range.

The bull isn't a "raghorn" either FWIW...

I don't pay attention to "score" of any animal. They are all trophies to me. Be it only a doe.

Raghorn??? That's a herd bull for CO OTC, especially in those central CO units. Great bull.

I pegged a 6x6 in 1st that was a little bigger than that with ~40 cows, so no doubt that guy maybe the best one around!

Pretty easy to do and I think a lot of fun to get a buddy and go through it -Will go a long way to help you field judge in the future.

You can then better communicate what size animals you are seeing etc.

FWIW, I would call any young 4, 5, or 6 point bull a "raghorn." Last year, in Wyoming, I saw a 6 point that was proportional but the same beam length as a normal 4 point. I would call it a raghorn.

Is it just the lighting, or did you kill that bull in a burn? Antlers look real dark like he had been horning burnt timber.
