Can someone point me in the right direction for picking a backpack for an 8 day elk drop camp in Colorado. We might spike out a few nights also if we have to travel to find elk. Thanks, Robinhedd

Depends on your build and budget. 8 days you'll need 7k size pack. Exo 7, SG 6900 and Kifaru Dall would be my choices in that order!

Depending on your build will help. If your you got bigger shoulders stick with Exo and Kifaru.

Good luck.

Exo mountain gear, Kifaru, mystery ranch, and stone glacier are all pretty good. I’d recommend ordering one of each, test each one out to see if it fits your body correctly with 50lbs in it, keep the winner and mail back the others

Several good options out there, I’ve ran a number of them, but exo k4 is as good as it gets if you ask me. USA made, and an amazing company too with owner/employees who are legit backpack hunters. I’ve done several 7-9 dayer’s out of a k4 5000 no problem if you pack properly. 7,200 if you want a little extra room to bring all that stuff you don’t really need, haha.

☝️this post says it all.

Man the Exo sounds like a great option, but a big expense for an 8 day hunt. Assuming I bought a new Exo 7200, do you think I could get a good used price for it in the classifieds when I get back? We don’t really have a need for packs like this in North Alabama. 😂

You could get a good used price, but would lose a few hundred. But instead of buying new, you could try to buy a used 5000 or 7200 and then would be able to resell for essentially what you paid

I have an exo K3 4800 I'm not using if you want to DM me. Was gonna let a friend use it. But it's a full set up, lid(s), bag, rifle strap, water proof bag, 4800 and some other junk like pockets.

westrnwild, that sounds great sir. But I don’t think I have enough credentials to pm a member here yet sir. Can you text me @ 2five6-eight1zero,8four5zero

Piggybacking on OP's question:
-Is there any reason a sleeping bag and small tent have to go *inside* the pack for the hike in/out? Would it be wrong to use a smaller pack with some stuff attached to the outside?

-If I'm bringing my daughter along - we will share one larger tent and I'll tote her rifle in/out (she'll be the only one with a tag) - she can't realistically pack much meat. Our plan A is to pay a packer to meet us and haul meat, though we'll have to get it near a trail somehow. Either way - does my daughter need a giant pack frame if she'll barely be able to haul her own gear plus enough more meat to fill up an average day pack?

I packed maybe 45# of whitetail meat in a day pack once, with my basic walk-in gear stuffed next to it.....I'm thinking she could do similar. We might have to make 3 trips to move a deboned elk a mile or two, tops, and yes I know that's an ordeal, but it seems do-able. Either way.....I'm thinking that if she can clip her sleeping bag, etc to the exterior of a smaller pack, she doesn't *need* a giant pack frame, right?
