I know which states I can get tags in. Unfortunately, my current financial situation doesn't really afford me the ability to hunt out of state. If you notice all of my comments refer back to my home state.

I’ll probably never see a moose or sheep tag in my home state with our bonus system I have a chance and the guys that have lived here longer than me should have a little better chance they have been applying long before I was wanting to kill a moose

Nope not even close. If you can only buy a house because your fifty but can never buy a house because your only twenty not even have an opportunity when after waiting until you turn fifty. Then that would fit the narrative.
That "might" be true........if there were absolutely no hunting tags available right now for those under 50. We all know that isn't even remotely true........and quite frankly is a ludicrous comparison.

That's like saying "why doesn't that unborn child from 20 years from now have the same chance at things that I have now?" Seriously? I'm sure all those that came up with the point systems were thinking that same thing back then too. I'm just amazed at everyone that seems to think that every single thing in life has to be equally fair for every person now living and those also that might be born in the future. "Gee......why were you born before me.....that's not fair." "head slap"
They should have the same chance at things that I have, if those things are a public resource like hunting tags. I'm not special because I happened to be born before them.

So I would say that yes, they are more deserved than the 12 year old that didn't even know that unit existed until today.

Just because you think it should happen that way doesn't make them more deserving.

At the end of the day game animals are a public resource and the 12 kid should also have an opportunity after all they have equal ownership of the resource do they not?

Except everything is equal in the housing market. You and I can both put in an offer on the same house and we have a 50/50 chance of getting it.
No it isn't. It's the same thing. Not every single person can buy that multimillion dollar house because they don't have the capital to do that. But there are plenty of other houses in the world that they might have the capital for. That might require them to move out of the place they're in now, or even to another state. And similarly not every single person can afford that 25 point unit, they don't have the capital (points) to get that tag like others do. Yet there are plenty of other affordable options to them, which might also be in another state.

Special? No. But you were blessed to have been born into a time where tags were plentiful and hunters were almost nonexistent. Now is NOT that time. Everything has changed because of demand.......people are always the problem.

No its not. There isn't a select number of houses set aside for those that have certain things. If there are 10 houses on the market, there isn't a rule that 5 of them are set aside for people of certain, whatever you want to be here and the other 5 are open to anyone to get. Points are not the same as capital.

Absolutely! And they do have an equal opportunity to those resources. But hunting is a privilege.....especially hunting the particular animals within a specific area that the state has deemed "special". But those 12 year olds have opportunity to hunt a heck of a lot of other areas just the same as everyone else too. That's like me saying "I want to golf at the Augusta golf club and I should have the same opportunity as those that are members". There are plenty of golf courses around the country........."but I want to play THAT one". Sheesh.

I've always struggled to find another preference point system out there for a government resource... I'm sure something has to exist but I can't think of one. Almost everything I can think of is pure lottery each year, like how state run alcohol boards distribute hard to acquire bourbons each year through a pure lottery, or how the park service distributes highly sought after hike permits each year. It's just interesting to look for comparisons.

If anyone wants to really nerd out Idaho did a study on switching to a bonus point system years back, you can dig into their report here. Some pretty interesting conclusions and comparison of odds over time.

Is Augusta a public resource owned equally by all citizens of the state of Georgia?

Your just rambling on now partner. It's not like that either.

If your in a equal partnership because of equal ownership and one of the other partners tells you this is how we are going to run things because I've been here longer. That's the senario we are discussing right now.

There are a bunch of select houses that are set aside for those that have certain things........ENOUGH CAPITAL. Points are exactly capital........in the points game of the hunting world. Some houses (tags) only require a very small amount of capital. Other houses (tags) require a very substantial amount of capital........and then there's houses (tags) scattered all between those ranges. And just like those houses that increase in how much capital it takes to get one when demand is high........those tags do the same thing when demand is high.......the required capital goes up........exponentially up in some cases.

All I took away from this is we should auction off every tag every year. Don't worry there will be a tag left for you.

No its not. There is not a rule that says that these houses can only sell for so much. There isn't some artificial system barring me from getting house because I haven't been alive long enough to get it. There isnt a rule saying you must be a certain anything to get them. You and I both put in an offer and we have an equal shot at getting it.

I have put 6 offers in on houses this year. Guess what, I dont have any more capital now then I did when I put the first one in. I put in an offer, it may get selected it may not. I dont get to say I have put in so many offers, I am entitled to get this one.

****, now I remember why I had you on ignore.

Housing capital is vastly different then points though. You don’t have to be 40+ to have housing capital (money), you do to have 20+ points.
