Please sign petition to remove top wdfw guys! link added!

There is a petition on huntwa to tell the commission to fire the director, chief and deputy chief. The thread explains it, you guys should read operation Cody. The book is about a poaching sting in wa, very frustrating to read. But a must read for hunters.

Please take a look at this on-line petition. It is time for a change! If lack of predator management, tribal hunting, and total mismanagement of the agency isn't enough to convince you to sign this, then read the book "Operation Cody"

I share your frustration but I don't see that petition changing anything. Money rules the day and the fisheries drive most of the money. That and the governor appoints the commission; average sportsman takes a back seat unfortunately. They really don't care about the details.

It's worth trying, we got 250 signatures in less than 24 hours. The retired game warden/author would love to get it up to 1,000. Currently we have just over 350.

I would love to support the cause although I am not educated on the issues in Washington, and won't blindly sign a petition. I hope you are able to generate the signatures from WA residents and get some positive reaction from the gov.

Completely understand, I doubt I would sign anything that I'm not informed on either. The bottom link gives some info but not the biggest reasons these guys are not good for wildlife in wa or any state.

Signed. It is hard to have sound wildlife management if the regulations are not being enforced...which requires officers in the field working with sportsmen to respond to law breakers. It would be nice if WA had a more responsive system. We don't seem to get the best public service from WDFW, despite paying our money.

I've reported moose poaching and along with another guy illegal elk/moose hunting, but no follow up response. One area we were still in for a couple of days and never saw an officer. There may have been an officer that showed up at the trailhead in his truck (I can't say for sure), but the illegal hunters were accessing the area with ATVs from private land. I understand that the field officers are spread thin.

Also, (not enforcement related) my kids after taking hunter's safety found a dead pristine appearing Cooper's Hawk on our place without any visible external trauma, so were excited to take it in to see if the department was interested in finding out what had caused the death. After getting interrogated by the intake person at WDFW, the department took the dead hawk and the kids never heard back about what might have caused the bird's death. It sure would have went a long way for a couple of kids learning about and interested in wildlife management to get a little more engagement by the staff. Maybe I am expecting too much?

X2...

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Cenci has worked hard to clean up the area here in SW Wa. He is know for a nonstop motor. I know that the people that don't like him down here usually have their toes or feet on the wrong side of the line.

I take it you havn't read the book? I can't give you all the reasons why this Cenci guy needs to be standing in an unemployment line but I will give you a couple. The uca (undercover agent) had originally had 2 years to conduct the operation, which was very successful in a short time. At the end of one year the uca had around 50 suspects ranging from multiple elk, deer, redtail hawk, sturgen, salmon, trout and so on poaching cases. It was going better than expected, Cenci shut it down at around the one year mark, right at the highest month of poaching. AND told the uca a couple months before the end of the project he could only pursue 9 of his top suspects!!! 9 out of around 50 criminals?? He still had potential clients calling his under cover op but had to tell them no thanks. The other big example, without also saying he fought cenci during this whole operation, Cenci told him, "nobody cares about deer and elk". The worst thing he did was at the end of the operation. The uca had to drive to many diffferent juristictions to get officers organized for raids, get warrents signed and mostly prep the teams on who they were dealing with. The raids had to be made at different times, at several locations all over the state. Including Idaho and Oregon. So Cenci in all his wisdom and ego, call the uca boss and tells him he is leading the raid on the big fish in Tacoma......AND he's bringing K-5 news with him!! This is hours before the other raid's are supposed to go down, you can imagine how easily the other suspects could and DID see this on the news and start ditching evidence. Not only did Cenci's actions cause lost evidence, he put people's lives in danger! Know the suspects knew who was comming, he should have been arrested for obstruction. You really need to read the book, it's unbelievable that this guys is in his position. That's my rant for now, thanks.

Haven't read the book. Just saying what he had done in the local area. And yes he has an ego. Not the first time people have tried to oust him.

the entire agency is trash. take the trash out and more trash will pile in. there is no such thing has game management in this state (WA) and there likely never will be. i live here so im forced to just make do with what scraps we get. tribes and wolves will take the rest and thats not going to change, and a petition wont change it either. they have never cared to listen to us in the past, a few hundred signatures wont make a damn bit of difference. unfortunately...

I'm glad the nearly 800 that have signed since Sunday don't have the same opinion as you. I agree it's f'd up, but complaining about it with you thumbs in your butt doesn't help anything. I'm not saying this petition will solve our problems, but it's a course of action that we might actually get to see results. I guarentee if you read the book, and you care about our wildlife, you'd sign just for the hell of it. Just saying!

Hmm mark this date I agree with littlebuf 100%
This is why I am now focusing on ID. At least that state calls it fish and game!

Idaho is much different than our state, less people, more game and way more public land. I've been hunting Idaho for years, love it! This has nothing to do with the differences between Id and wa, we are just trying to send a message. It's simple guys, simple, you like the way they run our state, like how tribes kill with no regards to the herds, and want more attention given to clams than elk? Then don't sign the petition for change. But why the hell would you be against it? Why not do something?

I signed it. Im sick of Natives destroying mule deer wintering areas by, in my mind, poaching trophy bucks any time they want. In the Entiat Valley (Washington) specifically there have been numerous cases of this. Almost too many to count. A great example of mis-management comes to mind..Some friends were archery hunting for Elk around the Teanaway,WA area and heard some gun fire, and physically saw 3 cows go down. This is in an archery only unit, no firearms, period. We called WDFW's TIP hotline (turn in a poacher) and the officer actually heard the gun fire on the phone. When he came down to investigate, it turned out that the poacher was a local fire fighter. The officer in question took two of the cows and allowed him to keep one!!!! These animals were NOT EVEN TAGGED. Needless to say, no fine, no impounded vehicle or seized firearms. Just a "dont do that ok buddy" from the officer, trying to take care of their own I guess. We contacted several people at WDFW and were told that the situation was "taken care of" and that the "case was closed". The case was closed 2 weeks after incident, seriously? To shut us up they awarded my buddy with 10 points for bull elk for next season. We are not shutting up and trying to bring this to a bigger stage. If the average hunter was caught this way, you would be burned at the stake and made an example of by WDFW. But since this guy was a "brother of the shield" he got a slap on the wrist. Im tired of it, myself and many others wont sit down quietly. Sign it if you are informed, if you aren't get informed because they think we will give up. Not going to happen!!
