Please Recommend Light Long Range Rifle Set Up

I like the idea of sprucing my rifle. Would using my barrage and action and replacing the stock with the new optic give me the same or better performance as buying a new tikka t3 in7mm or 300 win mag. Thanks some great ideas here.

I don't think so at all. The action on a Tikka is better, the trigger is better, it comes with a removable mag (which I like) and the Tikka is lighter and more accurate. Just my opinion.

This gets iffy for me. I have a tikka and I have a custom built of a remmy 700. It depends on how well your rifle shoots now if you were asking between a new stock for the remmy vs a new tikka. If it's shooting 3/4 MOA I say new lighter stock for the remmy If it comes down to smithing the remmy vs tikka is say smith the remmy every time. If you want it simple and don't want to smith it but your rifle just isn't quite accurate enough the Tikka t3 lite shoots great and are light, but the stock is terrible never the less they shoot very well

Why bother with a new rifle?

OP has already stated he's got a proven, great shooter in his ol' Remmy. IMHO, that's the perfect candidate for a stock/optics upgrade. Buying new, he would then have two rifles that are essentially occupying the same niche. When that happens, one is invariably neglected, and guns ain't happy sittin' in the safe, LOL

Definitely NXS over Vortex...

I am doing the same thing and I am going with a Tikka T3 in 300 win mag. I will be buying a re loader with it as I used to hand load everything and I kind of enjoyed it. More control over the finished product. Still havent decided on optics yet.

Let us know how it goes! My brother wants a 300 win mag and is left handed. He has looked at the Tikka's since they offer it in left handed. His only concern is it comes with a 1-11 twist. He would prefer a 1-10 twist since he wants to shoot the high bc heavier bullets. I have told him out to 600 yds it would probably be a wash if he shot the 180's compared to the heavier 210-230's.
