I live in northern Canada …. I hunted pigs in Tx in 2020 . Would like to go for Aoudad this year …. looking for recommendations for the outfitters
Wes Mundy@ Double Diamond Outfitters is a good one. Shots a lot of aoudads each year.
Guys - thanks so much for your recommendations ! Now I‘ll do my homework and check them out . And thanks for the lead on the rifle permit. Prefer to bring my own gun than use a rental from the outfitter.
Shot this with Wes last year. He has a tight operation and will get you a quality animal. He is very responsive and if you texted him today you would get a response within a day. The hunt itself left me wanting more though. It was my first guided hunt fwiw. Nice part is you don’t need to be an athlete to get it done but the terrain is moderate and a great experience coming from the Midwest. I would do it again but as an observer of my kids ever want to go.

If you’re able to bring the meat back to Canada with you, do it. Aoudad is very good, a lot of people will say otherwise but I haven’t had one that’s bad and I’ve eaten 6 or 7 of them, all mature rams 30-36”.
Also some advice, most places will advertise huge and trophy rams, I get a trophy is in the eye of the beholder and I’m not knocking anyone who calls their kill a trophy, just make sure they’re definition of trophy is what you are wanting and they can actually back it up.
Yeah it’s shame people say it’s no good and don’t keep the meat. It can be tough but nothing that a little pre tenderizing with a fork and a meat mallet can’t take care of. Taste wise it’s not like any venison it tastes like sheep cause it is a wild sheep. Like any wild game, don’t over cook it. I personally wouldn’t chicken fry it either.interesting on the meat i just booked a barbary hunt for january 2023 and they said"most people say the meat is tough and doesnt taste well" i like to take the meat that is why i hunt.looking forward to trying it
Thanks ! I can take meat back to Canada … pigs are a different story because of the swine flu .If you’re able to bring the meat back to Canada with you, do it. Thanks! I like sheep meat - I had a bighorn ewe in Canada 2 years ago and the whole family liked it . Did not have much of sheepy flavour .Regarding the meat; I've taken a 33" and 34" Ram and not gonna lie, the meat
is TOUGH with a very mild flavor, almost no flavor. It does make a decent chili
and I would like to try grinding some. But just the other day I made some jerky
with it and it was fantastic!! I thought it would be like eating tree bark but it does
really good on the dehydrator if sliced fairly thin.
Lots of big rams in TX.,,,whoever you use - Enjoy your hunt.

Thanks - will look into that .Take a look at CITES permit from the USFW. Cape and horns require CITES and in Canada the permit covers meat as well. I would ensure before bringing meat back that you check in on that. CITES usually takes 6 months or so to process.
Thanks for the tipOne of my close friends hunted with the H.E. Sproul Ranch in west TX. He killed a great Aoudad/Barbary and talks like it was one of the best hunts he’s been on. That ranch posts some big rams on FB as well.
I was told years ago the meat wasn’t good. Ive since had hamburgers, bratwurst, steak and sausage all from mature rams… it’s good. I liked the hamburgers and it has a mild flavor the others I couldn’t taste any “game” flavor. I’d take it over every single mule deer I’ve had! If there’s any doubt… most of those places will make it into some type of sausage.
Good luck!
