So I'm a bit gun Amish. I don't have any pistols with an optic. Lots of pistol... no optics. Of my pistols i'm looking to have my sig 1911 and G17 setup for optics.

A quick google search says JagerWerks does glocks and there are a plethora of other 1911 smiths. But if you know how google works, top spots go to people who pay $$. Maybe Jager is genuinely good. I'm guessing they use an CNC because its the same price for all optic cuts

Anyone have a reputable smith that can do both? I'd like the same smith to do both guns cuz shipping

JagerWerks does good work. They run a Black Friday sale every year with $80 optic cuts if you aren’t in a rush. Their black nitriding is great as well. I’ve sent 4 or 5 guns there but not in the past 3 years. I doubt they’ve fallen off though, that’s their bread and butter.

1911 smiths I’d be a little pickier about. I don’t have any experience with any because I wouldn’t mutilate a 1911 😂

I had my P365 milled and nitrided by Maple leaf in TX. Good work and good service, came in right around the estimated timeline. I don't see anything about 1911's glancing back at their website but while Glock milling is abundant SIG options are less so thought I'd toss it up in this thread.

Jager did both my duty and carry pistol. Very happy with the work and communication.

Cut straight to the chase go Aimpoint COA. That will narrow the smiths down.

I had Wager Machine Works cut my Glock 19. They are reasonably priced and turn around is 3-5 days with cerakote. No issues with machining or fitment and they do offer a COA cut.

I used Battlewerx for 3 cuts. Fast service and very tight fit to the optic. Honestly they are probably all good.

Primary Machine is who I used to mill my G20 for an RMR years ago and they did a good job.

Picking a dedicated optic to cut for is an interesting one……I picked an RMR long before enclosed emitter optics were very common. It’s kind of like trying to predict the future. An RMR cut would be way behind COA/Acro/Shield RMSC today because of enclosed emitter optics being the standard today. Plates add a well known failure point to otherwise very durable optics.

Milling glocks often involves different screw lengths to not get into the firing pin channel. 1911’s tend to have narrow enough slides they need a wider plate added unless you stick to slimline optics.

Have you considered just buying an extra gun or complete slide?

I decided to buy a G43X MOA rather than get my G43 cut. I am happy with that decision.
