Fun story with this. When I first got into knives 5 years ago, I was obsessed with Gene Ingram (and still am). I was trying to find any old ones and came across one sold on Fort Henry Custom Knives. I loved it and even was thinking of making a custom just like it whenever Gene called my name. He retired and doesn’t do custom work anymore.

I posted an ISO on 24hr campfire a few weeks ago and a gentleman reached out with this exact knife that was sold nearly a decade ago. Unused if I had to guess, absolutely love it.

I started feeling I needed a loveless pattern so commissioned James to build one for me.

Magnacut and micarta.

I can’t see it replacing my Crotts but it’s a nice addition in a timeless pattern.

As a plug for the maker. His attention to detail and skill are impeccable. The fit and finish is nearly perfect and better than any other custom I’ve owned. No comment yet on the heat treat.

Thats come up nicely. The Loveless dropped hunter is an iconic design and takes some skill to get right. I am assuming a tapered tang and thin red liners?

I skipped the red liners due to the maroon micarta.

Always a tapered tang

Most of the time I do both but I usually prefer mammoth ivory so the liners make sense.

Id have still done red liners with the micarta. But its just personal preference - no right or wrong answer. Tangs are nicely tapered
