I’m considering putting a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42 on my 7mm Rem mag.(long action) Nosler M48 Liberty. Trouble is the mounting surface from objective to eyepiece of the optic is advertised as 5.1” my current set of Talley lightweights with offset will not accommodate that spacing. (The scope is too short for the action) Looks as though a Picatinny rail is in my future. Nosler rifles are designed to be compatible with Rem 700 bases. But I am concerned with height relative to the bore, and the need for more comb height. Should I be concerned with this? Additionally what would you folks recommend for a rail and rings to allow as low of a mount as possible? Usually a maximum point blank range shooter so I’m not particularly drawn to the 20 MOA rail, as it would bring the whole system even higher than the bore?

My rifle seasons are over, so I went ahead and bought a 3-10x42 Nightforce SHV from Doug at Cameraland inc. (great to deal with!) I used a zero MOA Warne Mountain Tech rail, and 30mm low Warne Mountain Tech rings. I still have plenty of room to load and eject cartridges. I can still get a good cheek weld on the stock. I have a m48 long action and just ordered the NXS compact with the same mounting length - have you been happy with the warne rail and rings set up?

Yup I have been very pleased with this setup. It’s held up to being knocked around well. The rings and base didn’t add much weight. I’m jealous of your NXS.
