Sure, I'd say about 2 months old, but I can't tell if it's a cow or bull.

I'm with you on that guess TB.

As a comparative, the calves in my pic shared earlier are less than a week old. The cow dropped them in our yard...seems to happen every few years here !!

I was originally asking about the age of the cow/mother. She seemed extremely old to me—gray hair on her back.

Cows keep calves for two years. She doesn't look like it's her first rodeo with a calf, but who knows from a photo. They shed their winter fur during calving season, so they often look ragged.

I don’t think the gray color is a sign of age. Rather, I suspect she has a significant load of winter ticks that causes irritation. The animals do a lot of rubbing to relieve the itch and, in the process, suffer substantial guard hair loss.
