Male sparrow hawks are absolutely beautiful. Wish we had more falcon species in Alaska.

This is actually an American Kestrel. Many called them Sparrowhawks but they are not the same. The American Kestrel is a falcon and the Sparrowhawk is a hawk. I think the Kestrel is slightly smaller in size also.

It’s not the same as the Eurasian sparrowhawk, but American kestrel and sparrowhawk are the same bird here in the United States.
