Got out with the camera this morning. The photography opportunities were slim pickings so settled for a sunrise and a seagull catching a crawdad.

Caught Valley of Fire on decent photo day last week with some cloud cover - wife wanted to go to Vegas and told me to pick a show to go to. I chose VoF at sunrise.
Loses a little IQ in slideshow compression but you get the idea. Sony A6700 w/16-105mm and 70-300mm G-series:

The topography and foliage have been very highly varied and expansive...truly very impressive. There have been times we feel that we are driving through Alaska, Colorado, Southern Wisconsin, Hawaii, etc., etc.!!

I don't know the truly accurate answer to your question regarding predation/predators here. Since it isn't a hunting trip for me, I intentionally didn't research the hunting reg's, hunting history, etc.
(I will when I get home ).

No natural predators in NZ other than falcons, hawks., only two native mammals both small bats.
Introduced dogs, cats, weasels, stoats wreak havoc on birds,skinks etc.

That's funny TB...you already know I love fishing with a fly rod.

This was a trip that my wife planned and I supported her preferences...she always supports my hunting and floating/fishing adventures every year. Her planning gave us a vast and varied sample of the country, and I tried my best not to whine or rubber-neck each river we crossed .

We are already talking about going back, and she told me to bring my fly rods next time .
