Am particularly pleased with this photo. It was not easy. The heron was quite suspicious of mankind. So... I set out in my kayak on the mighty Columbia River. I paddled past the heron at some distance. He watched but did not flee. Then a mile or so above him, I turned and drifted... Only gently paddling now and again to correct my course. I passed near him, silently, and with all attention on my camera.

Perhaps other herons are not so difficult to photograph, but this one, he took work and thought!

Yeh. I parked my vehicle about 100 yards away. I got woken up by the neighbour driving past a couple of times, just to keep an eye on things. The fire made it to the edge of some scrub but the wind changed and pushed it back away from the part of the property I was keeping an eye on.
