Looking for reviews on the Phelps small bugle tube. How does it compare to the larger one? I know it would be easier to carry. And easier to lose🤷‍♂️

Listened to Jason use it at the expo I was impressed with it for the size. not as deep on the low end tones but far better than any primos tube (y)

I talked with Jason about the new, smaller tube while at the Portland show. The new tube is exactly the same as the bigger tube, but with about half of the front end cut off. He told me the main difference between the two was that the chopped off version creates a little more back pressure, which makes it easier to create quicker chuckles and to transition between notes. I did feel that after listening to him call through both tubes that the shorter one is not quite as deep and loses some of that low end resonance that I like with the big tube. Hope that helps.

For myself it comes down to sound quality. Yes, the smaller tube is easy to carry but you will sacrifice big bull performance when needed.

If you're into just locating bulls & don't really hold out for anything special then you bet the smaller tube will suffice. If looking for more distance where your bugle carries well & want the option to sound as well as possible the Larger Unleashed Bugle would be one to consider.

I did some calling last year with the smaller bugle & really felt under gunned with it, I'd without doubt would choose the larger bugle because it allows me the option to be small, medium or as big as I can possibly muster. Yes, there are occasions when this is a must for myself even though it's larger it would still be my 1st choice!

The renegade tube I believe is somewhere in between the smaller and larger Phelps tubes. Sporting Dirk Durham's brand. Dirk is an awesome guy and definitely deserves a little love from the elk hunting community in my opinion. Teamed up with Phelps I'm sure the tube wont leave you dissapointed.

I like the unleashed tube the most, but there are definite benefits to the other two portions as well. You

Any post season feedback on the small Phelps? I want a better bugle tube but am a gram counter, 4.5 oz sounds better than 1 pound

My buddy had the small Phelps tube this year and I have the Elknut tube. Pretty much what everyone said is accurate, the small one definitely packs easier but doesn't have the volume and depth of the bigger tubes.

You should check out the Elknut tube, it's 19" and the phelps is 24, also only weighs 7.5oz. I've had good luck with it so far

I was under the impression the Elknut tube is no longer available? Looks like there's the Bugling Bull Rogue that's more compact too but the spring thing seemed kind of gimmicky

Aw man, that's a bummer, wasn't aware of that. I've never tried any of the Rocky Mountain tubes, that spring piece does sound pretty gimmicky but who knows

I can assure you bulls don't care what "tube" you're using if you know how to use it. Don't get caught up in marketing. Probably more bulls killed with the good old wiffle ball bat(like mine :) ) than any of them. Just learn to call and any of them are going to work just fine.

I used the Phelps small tube this year and liked it, granted I haven’t used any other bigger tubes. Called in plenty of bulls that thought I was an elk. Like mentioned above, i think it’s more about how you use your diaphragm than a tube. Personal preference on the tube, I wanted something small and less bulky, the small Phelps fit the bill

Just take a dump before your hunt and carry the larger one.
I used both all season and everytime I screamed in the little one, I put it away to grab the big guy.
