My blood starts to boil when I see people dump their campers off 1-2 weeks before opening day to "claim" a spot. Only to abandon them until September 1st. I can't really put my finger on why it bothers me; maybe it stems from "hoarding" public land.

USFS and BLM rarely enforce the 14-day limit with their limited resources.

Oh well, we dropped into the upper 20's in that area. Hope they were insulated.

Seems to be a common problem around the Kremmling area, if that's where you're seeing it. Some of those camps will be there two weeks before 2nd rifle, then stay all the way through the end of 3rd rifle.

An area I hunt has about 9 camp Sites, year before last a large group had one big camp but they put out tents and cars and lawn chairs at all the other camps sites just to keep other people out of the area.

That's for sure. One of them is in my usual shooting spot in a clearing. I will gladly set up my targets after archery!
Go in and set up amongst them if you desire one of those spots.
One thing I have realized: The number of considerate and morally acceptable people in this world is dwindling.

If it was up to me you would have 14 days then a yellow tag gets placed on your door handle. When 2 more days pass a ranger should return to the camper and a red tag gets placed on your door handle. THEN PIRATE LAW takes place. Its treated as garbage.

People leaving this crap on public ground is no different than throwing trash out your window.

Unfortunately, the 14 day rule is NEVER enforced.

Most of these campers have RESIDENT plates....Seen it 100's of times.

One of these days I am going to hook onto one of those things and drag it miles away.

Of course it’s locals, nobody is driving from Wisconsin and dropping them.

The last road camp site I got from a non resident gang was nice enough to leave a couple bags of trash for me to pick up.

One thing a FS guy told me to do was take a pic and send it to him, they will eventually go there and say they have till 14 days from the time he gets my pic to move.

In the Bighorns (WY) folks drag their campers up Memorial Day weekend and leave them there ALL SUMMER. They'll have a cord of wood cut and stacked. Some get pulled Labor Day but some remain beyond. I asked a retired game warden about it and he said it was a culture thing, 'people been doing that for a hundred years up here.'

Bring your pack goats and let them roam . Might find one on top of a camper or another chewing on someones tent .Lol

I was thinking about dropping a deuce inside.

Take pictures of the equipment including license plates when you arrive, and then 15 days later. Send both with a well typed email to the correct land officer.

Folks for this on Missionary Ridge outside of Durango. They set up wall tents and leave them up for the whole month of sept or same with campers. Some of them must be local because they seem to only use them on the weekends. Others, though, are the “we’re hunting 30 days of archery season or until we kill 4 bulls” crowd.

Are there rules about leaving a camp unattended for a timer period? In the national forest around here, you can't leave it for more than 24hrs at a time.

The WY 14-day rule is not applicable once hunting seasons start. No limit... unfortunately. Not that it would make a difference.
