Question:

Does anyone rent out their gear when not using it?
Such as - wall tents, campstoves, cots etc?

I know guys that have rented out their campers on Outdoorsy.com with great results.

Thoughts?

i have thought about it but if you charged enough to fix it if it is damaged the price would have to be high.

i let a bud borrow my 12 man and he bent the pole.

Never knew it was a thing. I wouldn't rent any of my gear since I need to count on it each year. I rented some 15's from rent guns gear this year which was really nice but that's his business.

i understand that outlook, believe me.

but my trips are winding down and my need for it is not as high. still ya dont want ,it destroyed when you might want it next year.

for instance, a bud is picking up something in ohio for me next week and i am going to suprise him with a
comfortable gift for camping.

Can't see the downside if coupled with a deposit to cover damage. The hard part would be having protection for both parties and making sure both parties can be satisfied in a dispute. Also, most people get gear dirty and it can take 2+ days to get stuff aired out and cleaned/dried. So that would be super hard to account for unless you just expect both sides to plan on extra rental days.

On second thought that would be a huge downside. Or include something like a free 2 day cleaning period as part of the business model.

If coupled with protection for both parties, I'd absolutely rent my gear. But ya, not sure how much demand there would be for such a service.

Thought about renting out our toy hauler but just cannot get into it. I just do not want to deal with the issues. I had a rental property once. It was great when the renters were but, one bad renter makes the whole thing not worth it.

I let people here use my Inreach one year for the price of the service plus shipping. Didn't make any money but helped a bunch of guys out. Just got to be too much running to the post office.

I understand where you are coming from but risk reward just isn't there for me.....most of the time I think people renting stuff feel entitled to abuse it because they are "paying for it" yet......they can't really afford it in the first place which is why they are renting. That's not the person I want to have using my stuff.
