Periodic Can use, is it worth the hassle?

Situation is that I live in California. I shoot mostly here (obviously). However, I do hunt out of state and shoot in Nevada with family a little.

Option: I can get a Can (NFA Trust as a Trustee) with my brother (NV res) and have it at his house for use when I need to there.

What this means is that I would be taking the can on/off. I could zero with can and without and figure the POI change. Not real sure if I would need to re-zero each time I put the can back on if I used some type of index mark or something to ensure is was spun on the same each time.

Just trying to figure if it is worth the hassle to get the Can in the trust and use it when possible, or since 80-90% of my shooting will be without it, just forget it.

No direct experience, but someone posted this a while back and it piqued my curiosity.
I wonder how the loudness compared to just a plain 223 or 65CM barrel without it. Wonder if the break, while reducing recoil increases the loudness, and does the redirection mitigate the increased sound.

I have several rifles that I use with direct-thread suppressors.

They all return to zero when removing and replacing the suppressor.

They all show a minor zero change between having a bare muzzle and a mounted suppressor, with most simply shooting a few MOA lower with the can and others barely affected.

I would get the can, especially if your brother would use it when you can’t.

As others have said, you can figure out the POI shift with the can and without. The two zeros (with and without) will remain the same, you will just have to know how much to dial for each situation. It will be repeatable.

If you're already shooting in NV a fair bit i'd be tempted to get one. I wouldn't get one and then go out of your way to shoot with it in NV if you could instead just shoot more/travel less near home.

In general spin on/spin off zero should be good. If your brother is shooting with it a bunch and adds an ounce of carbon to it since the last time you shot it maybe there'd be some shift but otherwise I think people overthink that aspect.

I think I'd proceed with getting one. The benefits are better in a hunting situation when you're out of state anyway. For the range at home you'll be wearing ear pro. You'll be able to use it in whatever non-commie states you go hunt in, of course picking it up in NC could be a logistics issue but it's a good option to have.
