Pellets smokers?

What's everyone using these days?
I have an older green mountain but it doesn't regulate heat very well, and its getting rusty and flaking the coating off. Thinking about upgrading.

Recteq, treager and gmg are what I'm looking at.

Im single so dont need a monster, but needs to be big enough for a brisket/pork butt or a few racks of ribs.

I have a smaller recteq but its just not quite big enough for a full brisket and pork butts are pretty snug.

I just ordered a reqteq because my GMG died. Online reviews are good, but I’m disgusted by the price of the new smokers!

RecTeq if you truly want to regulate temperatures. The use a proven PID controller which actually controls the temperature so you when you set your grill at 225 you actually will get a constant 225, you're not going to have the temperature fluctuations of 210-245 that you get with most Traeger, GMG, pit boss models. GMG & Traeger are getting better but still way behind the RecTeq

I have the REQTEQ as well.. think its called the dualcook or something like that.

I've had the Pit Boss Pro Series II for several years. It's been great, one auger failure over at least a hundred hours of smoking. Bought it used for $200. Easy to use, easy to maintain. The app leaves a bit to be desired...mainly just how it constantly needs to reconnect and I wish there were alerts for failures/thermometers hitting temp.

I'm a fan of cabinet style. Increased capacity, I can hang summer sausages, and temps are more consistent throughout. I sear on cast iron or stainless.

I have an older masterbuilt cabinet smoker, which runs off of propane, its always worked well, needs a little baby sitting, but awesome for anything you can think of. I recently got a Traeger Pro in a raffle, and I really like the convenience of it, though it imparts less smoky flavor (since that model does not have the super smoke feature).

The Traeger is good for doing something all day (like a brisket or pork shoulder), does well regulating the temperature and keeping everything consistent, plus I can control it with an app, which I think is pretty good.

The cabinet smoker is still in the lineup, I use it as others have said, for stuff that needs to hang.

Got a pit boss 11 years ago and been waiting for it to die and it runs like day one. Use it at least once a week if not more. I will replace it with another pit boss when that day comes

I recently got one of the Masterbuilt gravity series grills that runs off of charcoal and wood chunks. Ease of use similar to the pellet smokers, but with charcoal flavor.

Unfortunately quality control is lacking and the Masterbuilt app seriously sucks to use. It does make good food though once you've got things dialed.

I will say my smaller recteq works substantially better than my gig. Irs just a little small for some things... looks like i need to save some money for a recteq.. prices on all new smokers are ridiculous

People buy em, use them 3 times and eventually decide to sell them all the time. Just counted seven on FB Marketplace within 5 miles of me.

Maybe not so much with Recteq. Imagine once you're into that price point you're pretty dedicated to the craft haha.

We have a newer base model Traeger and I would not buy it again. Cleaning is a pain, the auger back burns frequently, and the heat controller is meh. There is a company that sells aftermarket control units I may snag one of those.

I had a GMG Daniel boone for 8 years and it was great. Parts were easy and cheap to source(only had to replace the fan) The control board allowed for 5 degree temperature increments which I much preferred over a traeger and it has one of the lowest temp setting at 150.

With all that said 2 years ago i bought a recteq and its by far a better unit. The app is also a great feature and makes cooking alot easier to manage for those long ones. However im not a fan of the customer service. They will only ship parts to original owners so buying used is not really a long term option which also hurts resale.

You can get a recteq temp down below 165 but it requires messing with the feed rate in the app to do so.
