Does anyone know the weight of that little stay fresh insert inside Peak Refuel meals ?
Just being a micro weight weenie. And prob eat it.Why, you planning to eat it for your daily dose of fiber or just being a micro weight weenie? Just razzing you.
Meth babyI kid you not, nearly 30 years ago when I was in Boy Scouts we had a kid in our group that was a little out there and he tried to cut that open to season his food…he also put the plastic bag that the meal came in directly on a grill grate![]()
Thanks. I’ve been re-packing the meals in FoodSaver sealed bags - but I think next time I’ll just use ziplock. The bags themselves are heavy. Transferring the food to a Ziploc saves both space and weight and the meals are fine up to 2 months later in my experience.
I poor my boiling water in the Ziploc, then wrap in my jacket to keep it warm. It is is cold enough that I'm wearing both my mid layer and puffy, I put it in the pocket of my puffy.
I only use Ziplock brand freezer bags, if using something different, test it first.
To eat I will put the bag in my pot and roll the top down over the rim.
I think 8 days worth of Peak Reful packaging weighed 16.06 ounces, the Ziploc bags weighed 4.2 ounces.
Smace savings are my main reason, both packing the meals and trash at the end.
Just putting it out there you get a lot of PFA’s in your food by boiling a ZipLock bag. Try the boil-safe Sous vide bags for a food saver. They don’t get soft when they heat up and you won’t be ingesting all that plastic shit-If you care about that kind of thing that isThanks. Yes for sure - I bring one of the Peak RF bags along to heat up the meals. I wouldn’t want to be heating up a zip lock / eating food from it.Just putting it out there you get a lot of PFA’s in your food by boiling a ZipLock bag. buy the 10# Mt. House cans and ration into ziplocs.I just can’t get myself to waste all the bags. I’m not a super green dude but the bag is purpose made for eating. I’m not throwing it in the trash and using new bags to save some weight.
Makes a ton of sense. I wish peak did the cans.buy the 10# Mt. House cans and ration into ziplocs.
Do you use paper towels or dish cloths? Disposable containers or none disposable for food at home? I get were you are coming from, I'm just curious if you think the same in other areas. There is no requirement for perfection, so no criticism if you use paper towels and disposable containers (I rarely use either).I just can’t get myself to waste all the bags. I get where you are coming from. I’m the world’s biggest hypocrite but do my best. A mixture of both. Maybe we can lobby Peak to do a 10 pack tub.Do you use paper towels or dish cloths?
