Pdog season is coming

1010 yards with my 223 a few weekends ago. 75 grain ELDM at 3025 fps are simply amazing in the prairie dog fields.

After walking all that ways, I was super grateful he hadn’t kicked himself back down a hole before he died.

This was my second best. A handful of years ago I killed one at 1404 yards. Both kills were witnessed by multiple people and laser confirmed back to the shooting position.

It’s crazy to think I have kills at those distances when I’ve also emptied a 10 round magazine on a dog at 500 yards and never hit it

Definitely not. The 1010 was on my second shot and the 1404 was on the third shot. At that distance you’re playing with statistics anyway as the precision of the load is bigger than the target.

On the 1010 yard berm I’d probably missed 15 shots at prairie dogs in that vicinity over the previous 2 hours before killing one.

25.5 grains of Varget with a CCI 450 in a Wolf case. 26" barrel on a bolt gun helps too.

When carbon buildup occurred I was getting north of 3050 fps averages but it runs better at 3025 if I clean the barrel every few hundred rounds.

I mean...it only took one shot to kill it, all the others were just warning shots

My daughter and I went down to one of my pastures and shot at them tonight. She’s only 8 and they’re a great target for a new shooter and a .22. Not a bad way to spend an evening. I also shot one with a 95gr TMK tonight. Probably could back it off a bit with that bullet.
