Nope. Not a chance I’m eating it. I don’t care what the biologists say.
Me too. Apparently game wardens/biologists/fwp offices/university extension offices don’t answer phone calls today.Waiting to hear a definitive answer.

I only just now realized that.Holiday
Sarcocystis: White threadlike cysts in the striated muscles. Can occur in all mammals. Intestinal or muscles in humans.Sarcocystis is what I was thinking of, but my link above is for tapeworm cysts.
Sarcocystis is called "rice breast" in ducks. That's what your meat looks like to me.
Good luck to them on getting a warrant to check a freezer just to try to see if there is meat there....My personal opinion is to not contact a biologist or game warden, or you might get on a list for off season spot checks. I had an elk full of calcified kidney bean size lumps - about as often as the squiggles in your meat. I asked at a game check station and was told it’s edible, and that if I didn’t eat around the lumps it falls under wasting game regulations and I could get fined and it might get checked. What a giant pain in the ass to process an entire elk that won’t get eaten. I’m still pissed about that and it’s been a long time ago.
That sucks big time. I don't think I would eat. Sorry. My personal opinion is to not contact a biologist or game warden, or you might get on a list for off season spot checks. Sounds like you are coming down with something and may need to burn some sick time…..So here’s the scoop. The warden called me back, she had to consult with her supervisor. Said they have never seen something like that before. They both agreed that it was sarco. They said according to the WWW if you cook it to 165 it should be safe to eat but they are fine if I decide to discard the meat and wouldn’t blame me for it.
She gave me 2 options:
Option 1: keep it all and eat it or discard the meat if I choose with no repercussions of wanton waste
Option 2 forfeit the head and they will reissue me another permit for the same unit.
Problem is the unit is 7+ hrs away and I just spend 10 days over there so I can’t really swing another week and a half off work. Hmmmmm
Now that you mention it, I think I do have a sniffleSounds like you are coming down with something and may need to burn some sick time…..
Would they reinstate points, assuming you burned points? So here’s the scoop. The warden called me back, she had to consult with her supervisor. Said they have never seen something like that before. I think this is the most important question. How big was the head?

Head was pretty average size.Would they reinstate points, assuming you burned points?
Can’t even feed it to the dog, unless you want to cook it.
How big was the head?
And you killed the only bull dumb enough to let you kill him!Head was pretty average size.
Antlers though, they’re huge!!!
No he’s a small 6. Which I don’t really care about the antlers but it was a grind of a hunt so I can’t say I’m crazy about the idea of going back for round 2.
