I'm totally sold on my kuiu attack pants for all but the coldest of my hunts. I want to pickup some pants for my 15 year old son but since he's growing out of things fast I don't want to spring for attack pants for him just yet.
What mid-priced hunting pants have you folks found to be up to the task, they can be earthtone solids or camo, and hopefully will work with a light base layer underneath if need-be, yet quite in the timber.
thanks

Second the microtex. I doubt if I would ever find a real need for anything more costly. They worked great for the last two years in AK including 10 days sheep hunting.
They breath well, semi wind resistant and dry fast when wet.

100% agree but I prefer the Microtex Lite pants. Dry faster, less heavy when wet, zippered cargo pockets to hold in calls when sitting, lighter and cooler for warm weather, and perfect for cold weather with a light baselayer underneath.

I almost hate to post this because the last time I suggested a cheaper piece of hunting clothing, I kinda got spanked but, here goes anyway. Nearly 3 years ago I purchased a pair of Gander Mountain Guide Series TecH2O Beartooth Rain Pant. I got them on sale and thought if they were even semi-waterproof, and lasted a couple of seasons, they would be worth the price. Since then, I've worn them hunting in rain and snow in CO and OK and two years ago, I spent an hour sliding down a very steep mountain slope on my butt in CO on an elk hunt. I figured the pants would have been done, but they are still going strong. Not only have they remained waterproof but they are showing very little wear. If I ever wear them out, I would buy another pair without giving it a thought.

If you are close to an REI check out the clearance rack. I picked up some rei brand light soft shell pants at a garage sale recenly for under $10 a pair. They are a great pant, wore a pair up Mt Rainier and Mt. Adams this year.
