Pants for Kodiak?

Im not a stranger to western big game but I am trying to lineup my first kodiak hunt. Do you all wear your rain pants exclusively? Or abrasion resistant pants with gaiters? My main go to pant for ~November temp ranges on kodiak would be the FL Corrugate Foundry pant, but they can also get wet. My rain set is the KUIU katana. Im thinking I pant with belt loops to plan on living in out there would be better?

Maybe KUIU Yukon or SG M5?

I haven’t hunted Kodiak, but plenty of SE AK and Prince William Sound. So no stranger to brushy and extremely wet.
There’s many days you’ll live in rain pants, but also days you won’t want to.
I’ve come to like an abrasion resistant pant or softshell combined fishnets. Not a total solution for downpour conditions, but most of the time it serves me well. Got wrath of god wet it’s Helly’s Impertech or Grundens Neptune.

I’ve hunted Montague and Hinchinbrook islands a lot. If tenting it out there, I always brought two sets of rain gear. One Yukon set and a set of helly hansons. It’s nice to be able to hang your hunting rain gear up to attempt drying while in camp. Under the rain gear is whatever you wear hunting. I usually wear something like kuiu’s attacks.

I live in the pacific north west and struggled with pants. I've settled on rain gear after spending gobs of money on expensive stuff failing. I have some Rivers West rain gear, its lined canvas and slightly quieter and more durable than standard rain gear.

My buddy did have decent luck with his Kuiu gear. Extra care needs to be taken with the Gore Tex and DWR water repellent clothing. Most of my failures were do to the pressures from wet brush and back pack straps forcing water through the DWR and Gore Tex membranes. All of this types of clothing has pressure ratings that you have to dig for. Most of the expensive stuff would hold up to relentless rain or wet brush contact but not both being out all day.

If they made fitted rain gear, (not baggy) with lined insides that you would wear all day not layering. It would be my go to rain/brush gear.

When are you going?

I wore my Walmart Wranglers and the light weight Kuiu rain gear.

Kuiu talus or Sitka timberlines would be my vote. I rarely wear my rain pants when moving unless I am after an animal and had them on already. I have the Kuiu Katana stormshells though for when I do throw them on. Also gaiters are a must. I live and hunt on Kodiak so hopefully my opinion is worth something

In my sample of 9 days on Kodiak early Sept, it was easier to just live in wet pants, cause the one day I tried wearing rain pants, I sweat them out. And, it’s a pain with baggy rain pants that catch in the bushes and alders.

I wore gaiters, but still ended up with wet boots from sweat and the moisture. Still, they kept me from getting them soaked.

Kodiak is an awesome place. I would go back every year to hunt, if I had the money.

Definitely, I feel very fortunate to have grown and continue to live here
