For all those that have painted the factory stock, did you spray clear coat over it? Did it make the stock slick in the hand when wet?

Just got done sponge painting mine and was about to clear coat it matte clear but worried if it would get slick in the hand while hunting

Yeah not a tikka stock, but recently sponge painted a mdt stock and then applied clear coat. So far it’s been solid, no signs with wear or scuffing, or tacky/slipping. Make sure you let it cure a week

Yup. About 4 layers of matte clear coat.

On my last stockys I even through a bit of thick texture paint under the forend and grip. Then sponge and clear coat. Turned out well and added just enough grip.

The key for me was using a quality primer designed for polymers. At the end I did apply at least three coats of a matte clear cost.

I would think more important is good mechanical and chemical adhesion first. And as others have said, matte clear for a good top coat without a slick or reflective finish.
