Pandemic related purchases

Apparently there were multiple fist fights and a few arrests at one of the local Costcos in my area earlier today...that's with zero confirmed cases at the time. The state just announced our first case within the last 10 minutes...tonight and tomorrow will be mayhem. We have a lot on hand as it is so we just needed a few thing which we got last week.

A lot of people don't have a spare can of soup in their house. Not because they are poor, they just live like that. Most people don't have basic medications at home. When they get sick they go buy some. Just how it is.

Now that they see they have made a mistake they are overcompensating.

Doesn't make it any less stupid. The sad thing is most won't learn a thing from this.

I work in manufacturing and we had someone steal TP out of the stock area on 2nd or 3rd shift. We had to lock up the rest of our stock. Ridiculous.

LOL we went to buy some cases of water today for work. There was an insane amount of people in the grocery store for 7:00 am. People in a mass hysteria. It is almost comical to see the over reaction. I still do not understand the TP side of things. I was just pissed that I had to get some shitty store brand water and not Dasani. Of course there was Arrowhead water on the shelf, but I would rather drink corona virus than Arrowhead water.

Agreed! Arrowhead bottled water is just terrible. I avoided that in all my years in Arizona.

Maybe at some point the credit and/or cash to buy all this stuff will run out and there will be deep discounts to move inventory

My wife said she wasn't eating any skwurls so we went and bought 2 shopping
carts full of apocalypse food today along with a new gas grill. And I hear rumors of a Federal shutdown, so I may be at home eating for a while, prolly get fat during the national emergency.

My buddy is high up a a Safeway in sf he says normally they get about 1200 cases of food shipped in twice a week but they had to get an extra 6000 cases shipped in tonight to fill the shelves

Apparently there’s some piss poor hunters around here hahaha.

Is this a serious question? How do you become proficient at anything?

Yes, it was a serious question. He answered my question, and I replied in post 80. Good for him, he enjoys shooting, and that's awesome!

The reason I asked is because he said he's shot nearly 1000 rounds over a three week period - I was just curious if it was to improve his shooting, practice for an upcoming shooting competition, LEO, military, enjoyment, etc.. He likes to shoot. Cool.

So I didn’t see diarrhea listed on the symptoms of coronavirus so why the need for all that TP?

Cause when you are stuck at home for 3 weeks and you run out it is a pain in the ass lol. Must think things through. Sure other ways around it, but it was obvious a month ago this was coming, so why not.

Although there should not be panic, many people cannot understand statistics. Based on the fact that the average person with flu infects 6-9 other people and with this disease the average person infects 45 it is a lot more contagious. With the current death rate many will die unless it is contained. So hunkering down so the health system is not overwhelmed is important. I manage a Division of nearly 200 people of all ages. Based on current data, if my work population were hit, five of my people wont make it. I have elderly parents and in-laws. If any of them get it, none of them will probably make it. So while bravado sounds good on the internet, understanding the data and doing the right things is a better approach. If me staying home for a couple of weeks saves any of them, then I'm OK with that. The panic buying comes from people not understanding our supply chain and being able to reasonably draw conclusions ahead of time, then the tough guys and the unprepared are oh shit at the end. The way our supply chain is now, we are always only 2 weeks away from hungry (yes I know people on this board are better than that because they hunt). Most of us have not lived through times of shortage and don't know how to act. Before the 1900's that was a way of life. If you are a father and provider your job is to protect your family and ensure they are taken care of. If you want to demean that with the title of "Prepper", so be it. I won't be seeing you in the TP line anyway.

While not a Virus Prepper, We Do live in EarthQuake country.
{ walking distance from the Rogers Creek Fault }
We always maintain a disaster " Larder "
Enough rice/ dried Oats + MTN House Freeze dried Stuff to last 2 months
Coleman 2 Burner Camp Stove + a pair of MSR WisperLites
And have 2 500 gal water tanks that I fill during the minimal rainy season
we get . One thing I did do , was to order all the Meds I get through the
VA early so to have an extra 90 day supply on hand.

There are quite a few articles to read concerning the COVID-19 situation. The internet is full of articles and YouTube has quite a few videos to keep most busy for awhile as schools and businesses are closing.

Here is a link to an interesting article with a different perspective on the situation.
