As my family gets bigger (my son is due in 3 weeks), I want to take them camping. I'm mostly a lightweight, backpacking type guy but I have a car camping setup and I want him and his mom to enjoy the outdoors like I do. However, she refuses to go without a hot shower (needy, I know). My question is, do any of you guys have any experience with a hot shower in the woods? weight isn't really a concern since we would be camping right by the truck. Price is my only concern. Anybody go any ideas?

Thanks, Aaron

We always take the ZODI pump up model. Just a stainless weed sprayer with a green propane bottle underneath. Works fantastic. With a Cabelas pop-open enclosure you are living large. Standard equipment in our base camps.

In the back-country we bring the Sea to Summit hang up bag. Heat up water in a pot and add to half full bag. Also works great.

I was offered and accepted a hot shower in my Father-In-Laws base camp this year after spending 10 days above treeline. It was a Mr. Heater hot shower setup running off a one pound bottle of propane and a few "D" batteries. He had it set up in one of those privy tents that Cabelas sells and it was a simple and great setup. Not sure what it cost but I can endorse that it worked very well.

We supply the mr heater setups to our drop camp hunters and the pop up bivy.
Although a guy I know that camps outa the truck has one of the Davis tent outhouses, he uses that for his shower he placed one of the plastic mesh type pallets for a floor helps a ton water runs out and no mud everywhere.

We used one of these for our elk hunt last September. It got warm in the sun, but not hot. But it felt like a luxury on Day 4 of the hunt to be able to clean up a bit! Filled it day one and let it sit in the sun everyday. One side is clear with the opposite (back on the inside) being black. Throw a rope over a limb and let gravity do the rest. ive car camped a lot and honestly the solar heat is the way to go. last year i put an RV water pump and heat exchanger into my coolant system and now i have unlimited hot water and full house type water pressure. but, it cost me around 170 to piece together :/

id get a black bucket from a grow shop and the fittings you need to put a hole into it with a spout. that way its a 5 gallon shower but you can use it for other uses too.

I have a single propane burner (turkey fryer) that I set a 5 gal stainless pesticide sprayer on, light the gas, when the water is up to temp, put the lid on the sprayer, pump up to pressurize and get to showering. I also have an elevated shower floor to keep you out of the mud created.

Fill up the can and put it either on a camp stove or next to the fire, hanging up on a tree branch and the shower arm swivels down

Zodi is awesome. 1lb propane bottle and 4 D batteries and you'll have hot water in 5 minutes. The red box filled up will make for 2 quick showers or 1 long female shower, lol

This is the only way to go for car camping. I have cobbled up a few of the on-board hot water system in 3 of my trucks. Sold the other two with the trucks. I still have one in the current truck which has been in there for 11-12yrs. Cost me less than $80 to put in back then.

Only thing I hate is you have to get the engine temp up for it to work in colder weather.

.......... how is the water pressure?

Oh man....i got a snicker from your question. Its not like one of those solar showers is going to put your eye out! Best way to describe them IMO- they are better than nothing

If you want decent pressure you are going to have to buy one of the more elaborate pressurized versions like they sell at Cabelas....which is probably what you need for a happy wife....but adjust her expectations beforehand.
