Alright, I'm trying to figure out a good way to carry my pistol for when I don't have my rifle.....just because the wolves in northern WI are getting a bit aggressive lately. My pack gets in the way of my current 2 belt holsters, so I'm trying to figure out about what holsters will work and give me fairly free access to pull it out if needed. I'm not a huge pistol guy or accessories, so past google I don't really know whats out there that will actually work.

I'm running the new Kifaru Hunting Platform Frame and an EMRII with a medium waist belt. I called Kifaru about the Koala, but the person I talked with said it would probably interfere with my AGC Bino harness. I'd like to carry my Baby Desert Eagle .45ACP or my CZ 75 SP-01 9mm and I was thinking about The Wilderness Safepacker holster and running it on my belt itself, swapping my water bottle to my weak side. Drop holsters just haven't worked for me, and I'm not a huge fan on my chest holster as I cant get it low enough to stay out of the way of my bino harness.

Does anyone have any experience with this holster, a better holster they like, or just have a better suggestion?

Not sure if they make one for your pistol but the black hawk serpa holster with the strike plate was meant for the two rows of pals on the Kifaru belt. Works perfect.

Do a google search on "Blackhawk serpa and strike plate".

I called them and they don't. . I really likes mine with my M&P. ImIDefense make a similar but I've not found one stateside yet as they are in Israel. One day I'll take the time and order one, but I was liking the fact the Safepacker is fully enclosed.
People around here are still weird about seeing pistols on the trails. Long guns are OK because of hunting, but pistols are still catching on. I know it doesn't make sense to me either.

I run my pistol in the Serpa /strike plate on the belt or pals on the bag. Sometimes I'll just put a trigger guard/with dummy cord on it and drop it in a belt pouch on the right side of my belt.

I really like my Diamond D Guide holster. It is best described as a chest rig, but I wear mine just off center and a little lower so it does not interfere with my bino harness. I like this system because if I drop my pack, my pistol is still with me.

Just don't forget if you use a HPG or the Kifaru Koala that you better have a concealed carry permit depending on state laws. No reason to break the law just to make tree hugger hikers feel all warm a fuzzy.

Unless you live in AK. Anybody (as long as they don't have a felony conviction) can carry concealed, without a permit, in the state of Alaska. God, I love this place.

I have the Wilderness Safepacker and have had it on my pack hip belt all hunting season. I really like it for the reasons you were thinking. It is fully enclosed so debrit, mud, snow etc stay out. Also people don't know it's a gun. But it is still really quick access. And mine will carry a second magazine that is also quick to access. I do have my concealed weapons permit since it is required in Utah in order to carry a handgun while archery hunting.

I love my koala lite with 2 inch pocket. Put my glock 23 in a velcro holder in the main pocket, then my smaller 10x leupold binocs in the front 2 inch pocket. I took it on one elk hunt so far and love it. Larger binocs may fit, I will have to try my 8-24x40 next time.

Its nice to have things in it that you can grab while walking, without removing your day pack. Combined with my gun bearer it was a perfect setup.

Same in KS now, just changed this past July but I know in many states this isn't the case.

I'm looking for a pack holster as well... I've packed around a heavy Taurus Raging Bull .44 mag with 6.5" barrel for 9 years, and either I'm getting older or this gun gets heavier with age  Debating a lighter gun this year, but until 'new gun' gets on the 'need list', rather than the 'want list', I'm still on the hunt for a holster.

Anyhow, I use an uncle Mike's nylon holster on my Tenzing daypack that works OK. I've managed to drill holes in it and use zip ties to secure it better so that it doesn't flop around. However, I'm looking to put a dedicated holster on my Exo pack. I don't want more necklaces, so a should strap holster (like the Diamond D Leather) is out. It seems like we have things like a pack, game calls, bino harness, range finder - all competing for space around your neck.

I did find an interesting design on ebay (rccustomkydex01); a custom kydex holster with lots of rivets that I could potentially use to secure the big gun to the hip belt of my Exo. There might be some options for you guys as well?.. But, the one 'but', there's isn't a strap for the hammer on the model specific to my gun... I can't risk crawling through the brush for a week with a chance of the hammer getting caught. I know the gun has a transfer bar safety, but still would like a strap and button. Anyhow, I've been going back and forth through email with the supplier on potential strap options - he seems interested and willing to custom develop a solution. If anything comes out of my discussions with him I'll post the feedback.

I run the wilderness tactical. Put some DWR on it and was in 3 days straight downpour and the glock was dry. I sewed on a "Cannon" patch and now all the bunny huggers I pass on the trail just think it's my digi camera case but it's really a hand cannon. After seeing a 175lb mountain lion at 20 yards hunting alone in Cali I never go out bow hunting without it. Holds an extra magazine and is pretty much bomb proof.

I went pretty cheap. I carry a s&w 340pd . It's a small j frame revolver. It fits perfect in a standard gi 2 mag pouch.
