Pack Dilemma, what's a guy to do?

So what's up with the new Kifaru packs being discontinued? I have the new tactical ultralight frame and a cargo panel and a DT2. I've been thinking about selling my DT2 and trying to pick up the new Reckoning. I think I would like the center zip. But now they have the crazy good deals on the last year packs in the Rhino den. I don't think I can come up with the cash for a Rekoning right now but I could probably sell my DT2 and grab a Markhor or and Argali. The DT2 has built in pockets and is a little heavy. The other packs have no pockets. Will I gain anything by selling the DT2 and buying and Argali and putting a couple pockets on it. I know the Argali is a little bigger pack but as far as weight are they going to be about the same? Knock me down with opinions. Ready set go.....

I think if you want exterior pockets then you already have the best pack for your needs. If you just want to experiment and try new designs then go for it. It's the best way to find out what really works best for you, and keep the economy rolling at the same time!

Great questions and some to be debated til the end of time.....

Tough call on dropping the DT2 and moving into a "slick" bag then adding pockets as needed. Guys prefer both ways and I don't think there's 1 correct answer.

After having tried most of their bags I have chosen a "hybrid" bag. The AMR has been the best bag for me by far. I need a little exterior organization (2 back pockets) but hardly ever carry a tripod or spotter (thus no need for dedicated exterior side pockets). The AMR gives me the option to add side pockets as needed but I'm not stuck carrying the extra material or weight just because it's built into the bag (like the DT bags). By the time I buy an Argali (7000 ci) and add 2 belt pouches on the back I'm getting close to the same size and weight of the AMR. But the AMR gives me the option to run side pockets easier and without modification that would be needed on the Argali.

All of this rambling to say you're gonna have to decide the features you need/want/use most often then decide if you like them built into the bag or prefer an ala carte bag with options for different pocket configurations based on the trip.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm just going to run my DT2 for now. I haven't actually gotten to take it on a trip yet so I'll give it a try. I saw those rhino den deals and it got my wheels to spinning. I do hate to see all the new packs being discontinued. Maybe they didn't sell as well as Kifaru had hoped. I do want to save for the reckoning because I think I would like having the center zip. I've got other items on the wish list first though.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they're discontinuing them, especially since they're offering them in RG. I think it's more of an over supply thing.

The email I got said the packs were overstocked, that's why they are in the den. Will say, I didn't read past that, if it was mentioned farther down in the email that they are being discontinued, I missed it.

I second the AMR, amazing pack!

i cant imagine them discontinuing the 22mag
IMO its the best day pack on the planet.
especially if you have a hanging meat bag....

It could be for just the 1000d bags. The 500d versions are not in the den. Maybe not enough people were buying the thicker stuff. I have a 1000d 22mag and I agree it is a fantastic daypack. I actually like the stiffer material, but thats just me.

I think I saw in the on the site in the rhino den where it said items in the rhino den have been discontinued. I thought they surely weren't discontinuing the new packs.
