Bought one of these earlier this year on an impulse and finally got it out to the range yesterday. After 80 rounds, I think it might be my new favorite 10mm.

  • P320 XTEN Comp Endure (I went with the endure because I wanted the extra stippling on the grip module. Plus now I can find my way back to camp if the phone dies).
  • Holosun 507c optic on Forward Controls adapter plate
  • Streamlight TLR-7X light

I fed a little bit of everything through it, from the weak Federal 180gr FMJ loads, to Underwood 200gr XTPs, and Delta Elite friendly handloads, and not Delta Elite friendly handloads. It fed and functioned perfectly with everything.

I went into the range session preferring the feel in hand of my P229, but something happened after I started shooting the XTEN and it just clicked for me.

Even though it’s lighter, I’m convinced it shoots just as flat as my 229 9mm, and probably flatter than my 365 XMacro. More muzzle blast, but I can’t tell a real difference in follow-up shot timing. Even with the hottest loads. It must be a function of the comp, but muzzle rise didn’t seem any worse on the hot loads than the .40 velocity practice stuff.

I’ll probably still carry the 365XMacro on desert hunts where people and lions are the biggest predators around, but I may start carrying the XTen where larger bears are present. Need some more rounds downrange to fully make up my mind.
