Ozark trail wall tents? (Update with review!)

Used mine on my Montana hunt this year… It was GREAT to have a solid “base camp” even though we spike hunt. It was a 10x improvement over the in comparison tiny 8 man tipi we have used in the past.

There were only two of us this year so we had an enormous amount of space. The stove did an awesome job keeping us warm. The tent held up well to the 50 mph gusts we encountered. We only got a dusting of snow so I can’t comment on how it would’ve handled a big dump of snow. That’s really my only concern as the frame is the weak part of the tent IMO. I may build a frame with conduit at some point in the future. For now though, the factory frame works just fine.

We normally have bailed and gotten a hotel once the pack out starts in years past… No need to this year! Was great knowing this was set up and ready at the truck. Easily paid for itself this year.

ETA I did use the floor which was nice. I folding about a 1/4 of it underneath itself for a 3/4 floor, so we had a “dirty” area to take off boots, etc.

I picked up the 10x12 model and used it for the first time this weekend. Here are my thoughts:

1. The frame is pretty flimsy. Definitely the weak point of the tent. I bent two of the angles taking down the tent. I could bend it back but I didn't want to put to much pressure on it out of fear of breaking the weld. I will be looking to see about getting and 1" EMT frame together for it.

2. The way the little pegs hook onto the bottom of the frame seems a little silly, not to mention a bit of a PITA. I haven't been in wall tents much but it seems like most don't have the walls attach to the bottom of the frame. I may see about letting it just hang next time and and add some loops to stake down the sod skirt more.

3. The material seemed pretty strong and durable. Seams are solid and I had no leaks in a bit of rain/snow. I did get two small ember holes that I need to fix (I wasn't using the spark arrestor and had the top of the pipe only 18" or so above the peak. I will add one more section of pipe next time if it is calm.

4. The bottom of the door was a few inches off the ground. It may have been due to having a little bit uneven ground but it seemed liek I'd want it a little lower in a storm.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied for what I paid. If I get the EMT frame, I will cut the legs a little shorter so that the loops at the bottom of the wall are low enough that I can stake it down if needed and it should drop the door down a little.

Also, I used the Camp Chef alpine stove and it worked like a charm. I may add some stove gasket around the door to be able to regulate the airflow a bit more, but all in all I was very happy. I was able to get about 2.5-3hrs of burn once I got it dialed in.

How did you setup the tent? I'm kind of curious how folks are getting the tent fabric over the frame. The material is heavy and could see bending or breaking frame If you tug hard getting fabric Overtop. I'd love to see pics of your stove setup.

As long as the frame is supported by all 8 legs, it’s pretty sturdy. I got the tent to lay over the frame, then raised one side, then the other. The weakness of the frame becomes apparent when there is only one leg or two up when putting up/taking down. It pretty easily bent one of the angles.

I was pulling pretty hard one the tent once it was up and had zero issues.

Here’s the only pic I have if the stove. The stove worked great in the tent.

Thanks. I assembled in a similar fashion as you describe.
